The Thing Before the Decoration

This week, on Tuesday to be precise. I went out to get something in a mall when I noticed a young lady in the section where I was. She wore casual wear, no wig on her head, her natural face. No lip combos or powder; she was dark and beautiful, nothing that announces itself because seeing her alone is enough announcement.

I saw some other people looking at her not because she was conventionally striking, but because she appeared like someone to look past. Her current mode that day is something I will refer to as simply present,, and this type of present she has on her, most faces that are decorated rarely have, to be honest.

And coming across this topic and the lady I saw made me rethink what embellishment actually does. I feel it only gives the direction of where to look and it does not create beauty in any way. And at that moment where someone needs to create a signal before it gains attention, that means that such person has already admitted that the original thing might not hold attention at all on its own.

And that is the beauty of nature because nature always has a unique way of working. That raining afternoon that always turns the sky dark and cool, the cozy breeze does not announce itself. The whole moment itself is enough statement. Same with an individual who has a genuinely good character. You will never see it coming because things like that does not need validation or attention to be felt. They are natural.

And some of the most honest writing that I have read feels identical. Easy to read and understand because there is no complicated sentence or vocabulary. Just easy reading with clear thoughts that really engages us when reading through without decorations.

Beauty exists before embellishment. The way I see embellishments is always in a way for the person adding it and not the thing being adorned.

Thank you for reading.
