The Line Between Minimalism

I can't recall the number of time's I have been tagged as being too minimalistic and told words like "you are being too stingy." "You have this money, why not spend it."

All these were being said to me simply because of the minimalist lifestyle I choose to live. They consider it as being too much but why should I waste more money on an item I can get at a cheaper rate for the same quality.

Praticing minimalism has really helped me, for instance, a month ago I wanted to purchase a new pair of shoes so I told a friend who insisted we go to a botique together to get it. Upon getting to the boutique, the seller showed me some really nice shoes, which I tested on my legs but the prices he called were totally outrageous for me.

"Bro buy this shoes these are the normal prices, you have this money dont be stingy to yourself." My friend said to me.

That statement got me slightly irritated as I told him we should just leave the place. The next day I went to the market and purchased the same design and quality shoe I saw at the boutique the other day at a much more cheaper price. Let's assume I bought that same shoe at the boutique for such an outrageous amount, there won't be any difference, I would have simply wasted my money which I could have saved for another purpose or used to purchase another important item.

Being a minimalist is a good thing and it's also beneficial to us as it saves us from a lot of unnecessary expenses. But sometimes I believe some of us(minimalists) take things too far in an attempt to prove to people that we are minimalists.

There is always a good and bad side of everything. I have been oportune to speak with people who think that minimalists are stingy and poor people. In my own opinion I think that we minimalists should learn to balance our lifestyles to avoid people looking at us from the bad side.

This is my entry for this week's #kiss prompt. Thanks for reading.

I think I’ll just say as far as you bought the same quality thing at the end of it all, it’s all good because minimalism is also about enjoying nice things.

You’re right—minimalism is about smart spending, not deprivation. Finding balance ensures it remains a fulfilling lifestyle rather than a restrictive one
