Personal Resets

(edited)

As someone who used to hate being alone years ago, the first metaphor I chose to describe my recharge routine did not only surprise me but also gave me a clear indication that I was really growing as a minimalist. I would begin by saying my refreshing routine mostly is like sitting by a lake alone. In this minimalist lifestyle of mine, I’ve grown to value solitude. I know no man is an island and I value all the people I have around me.

But when I’m rejuvenating, you’ll mostly find me by myself on a solo date at the beach either reading or watching the waves. These help refill my energy so well as nothing and nobody matters in that moment. I also get to appreciate the peace I have in my drama-free life as a minimalist. And it keeps teaching me that there’s nothing sad about enjoying your own company but rather powerful.

This also came as a shock to me but let me just say it. I would liken my recharge routine to that of rewinding a tape. Yes! Just like how you play back a movie or song to see if you missed something, one thing I do a lot when I’m recharging is to reflect and reevaluate so many things. The main reason for this is to ensure that by the time I’m recharged, I have identified any mistakes and corrected them. And this helps me gain mental clarity for my next steps, as I don’t find it pleasant repeating old mistakes.

Have you ever flipped a switch? Okay, for those who haven’t, let me tell you what happens when you flip a switch. Just two things actually happen: either power comes on or off. It aims at exactly what it has to do, nothing else. And I would say that is exactly how my refreshing process is. Very straightforward and focused on giving me the recharge I need. You’ll mostly find me focused on exactly what I want to do. I can recall so many times when I turned off my phone and devices. I never allow chaos from wherever disrupt me in anyway in that moment.

And the best for the last: taking a power nap. This is my favorite because it vividly describes all my personal resets. We all know how to take a power nap. You just have to close your eyes and you’re gone. Very straightforward, simple and natural, no complicated mechanisms involved. That’s how I would describe my rejuvenation process. It’s quick but powerful and most times, it’s around nature: either at the beach watching the waves or at my window listening to the chirping of birds.

If I’m being honest, I didn’t even know these activities of mine could be classified as recharge routines until I read this #kiss. I must say it feels nice to put a name to them. One thing I know is that at the end of my rejuvenation, there’s always a feeling of immense nourishment in both my mental and physical health. And I love that for me especially because most of these activities cost absolutely nothing, and the side benefit is free therapy from nature.

I have always loved a solitary life and even when I am around friends, I don't stay too long with them before I crawl back to my cocoon. The rejuvenation process is always heavenly, especially when you are focused and mean business to ensure you achieve something in the end.

Hahaha, the cocoon there made me laugh. I totally understand you. I couldn’t get a word for it but I’m glad you used Heavenly. It fits it perfectly.

You and I share the need to reset from dust to dusk some things. And I feel a little relieved thanks to you. We need more in common like your words on this community, friend.

I can totally relate to this. Funny how solitude used to feel lonely and now it feels like peace, I so much love solitary myself. That part about rewinding a tape, yes, that's exactly what recharging feels like sometimes. And that beach solo dates?? Ugh, goals. This was honestly such a calming read
