Except Crochet

About some days ago, I got into one of these usual mommy-daughter arguments with my mom about certain things she’s been buying for the house. Anytime I try to explain to her how unnecessary something is, she tries to make a point about how we might not need it today but nobody knows tomorrow. The funny part is, there are things she bought before I was born but still hasn’t even touched them.

During that argument, she pointed at my crochet table and asked “what about that?”. I was a little confused but after she explained that my yarns were also clutter and in as much I’m always complaining about the house filled with a lot of “unnecessary” things, my yarns also play a major role in making the house look plenty.

I was quiet for a minute and then retaliated that, they weren’t clutter as long as I had plans to make use of them. After looking at me for some moment, she said “well, until you turn them into whatever thing you’re talking about, they will remain clutter”.

The thing is I knew she was saying the truth. In fact, tangled yarn is an eyesore whether you’re a crocheter or not but for some reason, I am never bothered with my yarns being everywhere. In fact when I’m working on a project, my yarns fly all over the house and in as much as I know what I am up to, my family doesn’t and they get impatient seeing how “I make the house look plenty” with those yarns everywhere.

Meanwhile, when my brothers are trying to fix a problem at home whether plumbing or electrical, I’m always on their necks to organize their tools while they work. When they bring up what I do when I’m crocheting, I defend myself with “tools can hurt someone, yarns can’t”.

If I’m being honest with myself, maybe I don’t have a problem seeing my yarns very disorganized but they actually make the place look untidy. So since I always have them all over anytime I’m crocheting, I just try my best to restrict my movements and my yarns to my crochet corner. Sometimes when I realize certain yarns may lie around for years and get tangled, I make them into something temporarily until I get what exactly I want to use them for.

I’ve earned the name Miss at home because if there’s any other thing that I think is taking so much space, I don’t even hesitate to get rid of or keep it somewhere I don’t have to see it until I’m ready to use them. But for crochet? I just keep them as they are. I have a big bag full of leftover yarn from about 2019. Is it clutter? Yes. Do I like clutter? No. But guess what? It’s crochet so it’s not going anywhere.

I think there's often a battle between minimalist space and clutter, regarding hobbies.
I agree that the most you can do is keep the area as tidy as possible.

It sounds like you had a funny little bickering with your mother:)

Lovely photos and a well-written post.

For a crotcheter like you, seeing your yarns everywhere can never be a problem even when others see it as one but I feel it still makes it more better to tidy them in one place, except you are living all alone, even if you want them spread on your bed, in your kitchen, you are fine 😁

I too have earned that title at home and many more for getting rid of what is not used😂 I get you that your crochets are not clutter because everything is inside a bag, that is not clutter.

I congratulate you on your hobby, I would love to learn to knit but I confess I am not good at crafts. However, I delight in the ones others do 😉

Oh then hello my fellow Miss😂☺️

Oh no, you don’t have to be good at anything before you learn how to crochet. I’m always here if you need help on how to start☺️

What if someone decides to use your yarn to hang themselves?😂

I agree with your mom. Put your thing in rubber bag and hide it under your bed. What if it holds my leg and I fall in the soup?😂
