First off, Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers out there here on Hive! I hope you all have a great day!
Today's post isn't about Mother's Day in the least, as a matter of fact, I'm not sure it's even a real event that's ever been done before. But I felt like doing something different today, every now and again you have to mix things up a bit just to keep things interesting. So today, first off, since it's about the 1970's I thought it would be fun to share a coin from the 1970's, from 1976 in particular. Why 1976? It was the two hundredth anniversary of independence for the United States. They produced some special coins that year, but nothing remotely as nice as the one I shared recently. You can the post out here if you're interested.
This was a special quarter with a different reverse which I always thought was a beautiful design. This one was 40% silver which isn't nearly as nice as pure, but it's better than nothing!

I do own several of these, however, they are are stored away so I used an image off of eBay. That was a big event in the 1970's here in the USA! In the seventies was also the last time a human walked on the moon, I guess that's part of why the Artemis mission that just took place was so exciting. Humans returning to the moon again at last, and this time to stay!
One of the most fun things produced in the seventies was the music and movies. The first Star Wars was released in 1977, nearly fifty years ago! And the music produced continues to have an influence on the music still produced to this very day. Today I picked out four bands, all with different styles, but all a lot of fun to listen to. Incidentally, all four bands have been inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame. So let's kick it off with some Lynyrd Skynrd!

Formed in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida, this southern rock band became a huge success in the early 1970's. Fronted by Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington on guitar, Allen Collins also on guitar, Larry Junstrom on bass, and Bob Burns on drums. They produced five successful studio albums by 1977, having added Steve Gaines on guitar and backup vocals in 1976. They had multiple bit hits including "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird". Today's song came off their self-titled debut album in 1973 and is called "Gimme Three Steps".
The band went on hiatus following a plane crash in 1977 killing Van Zant and Gaines, leaving the rest of the band seriously injured. They did become active again in 1987 using Van Zant's brother Johnny on vocals and have been active ever since.

Formed in Pasadena, California in 1972 this band went on to become legends of rock n' roll. Eddie Van Halen was on lead guitar and one of the finest of all time, and fronted by the charismatic David Lee Roth. On drums they had Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony on bass, overall an amazing combination of talent. They finally got their debut album published in 1978 which cemented their place among hard rock fans with songs like "Eruption" and "You Really Got Me", this also was on the same album: "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love". All the live shows from the late 70's and early 80's are just too blurry to even share, so I went with a reunion tour from back in 2012.
The band dissolved permanently upon the death of Eddie Van Halen in 2020. I always thought it was a shame they didn't continue on with Wolfgang Van Halen (Eddie's son) who is just as good if not better than his father. But it wasn't my call obviously!

Formed in New York City in 1974 this punk rock band went on the become legends of rock n' roll. They were one of the most influential bands in their genre and have only gained in popularity since their dissolution in 1996. Sadly, all four original Ramones have all passed away, maybe living hard for all those years took a toll on their health. This song came off their third album released in 1977 called Rocket to Russia, and the song is a true classic: "Sheena is a Punk Rocker":

Also formed in New York City in 1974 was the band Blondie. Fronted by the talented and beautiful Debbie Harry. They fused all sorts of styles of music together including punk and new wave making them one of the most successful bands of the late seventies and into the early 1980's. They produced six studio albums before their breakup in 1982, with their first self title album being released in 1976. Today's song comes from their third studio album Parallel Lines from 1978 and is called "Heart of Glass".
They since have reunited as a band in 1997 and have been active in touring ever since.

That will wrap up today's Seventies Sunday post. Is it a true event? No, but it's still a lot of fun to do something a little bit different every now and again. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always thanks for all of your support. I really do appreciate it! Have a great Sunday everyone!

I have never heard Ramones' songs, but i know the band from the counterfeit shirts with their name printed back then during my teenage years, around the end of the 90's. SO we are lag]ging behind by quite a lot of times.
