Happy Hogmanay.png

Hello music lovers and Hello hivers!

Today is Hogmanay or for some people New Years Eve!

It's also Tuesday and of course that means it's inspiration time!!

Today my post is inspired with Scotland and Hogmanay

It is Tuesday and also Hogmanay and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!

@ablaze started #ttt 188 weeks ago! Go check out what it is all about on his last post Christmas Tunes for Three Tune Tuesday - Week 187 - win 5 HBI

Do go support @ablaze as without him we would not have this mental fun musical activity that you can win HSBI from! I am happy to be one of the FIVE sponsors and it is kinda fun checking out music from all over this global village of ours!

Long live #ttt 😁🎼 and #threetunetuesday

Where to start

In Scotland we say Hogmanay and I have been to my fair share of ceilidhs in my time, danced the Gay Gordon more than once and listened to some god awful music that always gets rolled out for our Scottish Hogmanay or New Year's Eve parties.

So today I will bring you a couple of songs that always seem to get played, but one from a favourite band of mine that I saw umpteen times live. A couple of funnies and of course will throw in the bonus song.

There is only one song to close out Hogmanay IYKYK as they say!

First of all let's get laughing ...

I firmly believe you should end the old year the way you want the new year to start!

So, let's see if I can get @deraaa laughing like a mad woman going wtf!

Stop Yer Ticklin', Jock (1908) - Harry Lauder

Sir Harry Lauder is probably one of Scotland's most famous singers but I doubt most of you have heard of him.

He was alive from 1870 - 1950 so was around before most us were even born.

If you make the words out it you might be laughing.

Jock is what people often call us Scots.

Reminds me of my Christmas present that I have to read out loud, a book of Scottish verse!

image.png

Look at this for a bit of free flowing continuity, we might be old Silver Bloggers but we are young at heart...

The Bluebells - Young at Heart

This was a hit in 1984 and then again in 1993 after being featured in a Volkswagen commercial.

I must admit I do love the use of the banjo, harmonica, and violin.

As per gemini AI...

With its catchy chorus and upbeat melody, "Young at Heart" celebrates the carefree spirit of love and the enduring power of staying young at heart, regardless of age.

The Happy Haggis (Year Mix) Β· Bert Shorthouse & His Glenlomond Band

What is more Scottish than a fluffing haggis!

I almost bought one today but tradition won out.

On New Year's Day it is tradition in Scotland to eat a Steak Pie...

What is your traditional meal on New Year's Day?

So I mentioned one song was a favourite band of mine.

It took me a long time to like them at first because they are diehard Celtic fans, but then Jim Kerr the lead singer was married to none other than Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders who I just loved!

Simple Minds - Alive And Kicking (Live)

They were a brilliant festival band, infact live anywhere they got the crowd going and both sexes.

Not sure if I ever did a ttt for them... ah well 2025!

Being Scotland there could only be one ending which I have sung in countless countries around the world at New Year celebrations, football matches, parties and general piss-ups!

It is a song that is sung all over the place, I even sang it at my father's funeral.

Auld Lang Syne is a song written by Robert Burns in 1788 and can be translated to For Old Time's Sake

I am including two versions, one with the pipes.

Is there another musical instrument that can invoke pride, emotion and grief all liek the bagpipes?

The second version will have lyrics, but there are so many versions to choose from.

Scottish Bagpipes - Auld Lang Syne

The Tenors - Auld Lang Syne

Which was your favourite Hogmanay tune?

Note: The 5 YouTube videos that I have shared are not owned by me, I am simply spreading great music on Hive.

I wish that you all have a brilliant happy and prosperous New Year in 2025 and until we meet again enjoy your tunes 🎢🎡🎢

Thanks for visiting!

I really liked Scottish Bagpipes - Auld Lang. It reminded me of an old piece we used to sing at school graduations that went something like, β€œIt's time to say goodbye, say goodbye. It's but a see you later...”. Goodbye to 2024 and welcome to 2025. May all that is to come be profitable and productive for all of us.

Aww I am happy you listened and liked them.
Happy New Year Nancy, I went to bed at six am this morning!
In Scotland though, the second of January is also a holiday so we have time to recover!

May all that is to come be profitable and productive for all of us.

I just had some Chinese food for lunch on New Years Eve. My wife and I probably aren't going to do anything too special today. Just relax at home, no crazy parties for us.

Happy New Year to you. Ah we had Indian appetisers I popped into the oven just before 12.
Yeah we were at home too, although I didn't get to bed until 6 what with being on calls and these darn time zones!
