Saleka: Lady Raven in a Trap (TTT 173)

I am not as consistent as that fellow @tengolotodo and you would wonder how I love music more than he does. Or do I? Anyway, it is another Tuesday and I just knew I couldn't let the week pass without sharing these tracks. They've been on repeat.

Few days ago I gave my opinions and review on the movie TRAP. The tracks I am about to share are part of the 14 original songs Saleka wrote and performed in the movie. Trap was also directed by Saleka Shyamalan's dad, M. Night Shyamalan (had no idea those two were even related until today).

Before we go any further, a shout out to @ablaze who is the pioneer of Three Tune Tuesday (TTT). I really hope you like at least one if not all of them.

Saleka - Release

Listening to this song and reading the lyrics along with it, gave me some sort of satisfaction. I think one thing I enjoy with Saleka’s songs is their simplicity yet striking complex.

She takes words – as simple as they are – and infuses them with message (with these at least, that is how I feel). In this case, I feel like the fact she wrote this album for the movie sends a different kind of message. Listen, I’d really like to know what you think. Especially if you’ve seen the movie.

Saleka - Liar

So I was telling someone that this was like listening to the upbeat version of Billie Eilish. There’s just something a bit sinister going on in the background with these lyrics and the whole rhythm. Especially with this one and the fact that the lead is a serial killer.

Maybe it’s just me, but my brain went into overdrive and I can swear I saw his victims as they lay bled on the floor. First, he is a liar. He lays on too thick of a charm to be anything but.

Saleka did a great job to me with these songs. It carried the aura enough to represent the movie and still satisfy you if you’re into the kind of thing I’m into.

Saleka - Where Did She Go?

Remember what I said about her words being simple but packing? If anyone remembers how head over heels I fell for Visions in Blue (thank you again @tengolotodo) then you’d understand why this is a favourite for me.

It’s poetic (to me at least), eerie and most of all, it speaks. It makes you take a breath and wonder. It invokes image and a story. I’d like to hear what you think about this particular track. It’s a beautiful track and my favourite among every other.

Bonus Track

Saleka - Don’t Wanna Be Yours

Yeah. I like this one too. It’s the opening theme and I’m a sucker for rhythms like these. I get sucked in by bass, drums, guitars and harmony. You hear that bass?

THANKS FOR READING!.gif

So you are going from back to front with the bonus track being the the theme tune and interesting title too 👀 as well as lyrics. But yes I love that bass and this seems the most upbeat of the four.

She has a great voice and I loved the piano in the first one Release, and well really ...

Not seen the film, and in the good old days screentracks were written for films.. Great tunes though this week...

you would wonder how I love music more than he does.

The fluffing fluff!!! Thanks for that it has given me inspiration for the Scholar and Scribes invitational this week...

Hey Dee, I haven't had a chance to check out the movie "Trap." I've been putting it off, probably because it's not on Netflix.

She has a really good voice. Is it just me, or is she giving off a mix of Billie Eilish (yes, I agree), Aurora, and Ruth B?

I swear it’s not just you. She’s giving those vibes honey. And I’ve just been listening to her album since that day I searched for it. Her voice and style is a dream come true
