When the commute can wait five minutes (or a few more)

I'm not exactly a morning person.

Unfortunately, mornings occasionally don't seem to care about that.

This was one of those mornings. I was on my way to the office, driving through the fields here in the quiet Kempen, when the combination of mist, clouds and a rising sun became just a little too good to simply drive past.

And luckily, the DJI Mini 3 Pro was in the car.

So yes... the office could wait five minutes.

From the ground it already looked nice, but once the drone went up above the fields, the mist completely changed the landscape. Farms and trees slowly disappearing into it, while above all that grey the sunrise was doing its best to add some colour.

Not bad for a random weekday morning.

I flew around for a little while, trying to catch that strange boundary between the dark green fields below, the mist in between and all that colour above.

And then I spotted this little road cutting straight through the fields.

That's the thing I keep rediscovering with the drone: you really don't have to travel far.

I love photographing spectacular places as much as anyone, but sometimes the interesting stuff is literally behind the corner. You just have to stop the car, look around... and occasionally look up.

And since it's Sunday and you might have a little more time to fly yourself: if you have a drone gathering dust somewhere, charge the batteries and take it outside.

And if you come home with something you like, there's a new home for it here on Hive as well.

The old Drone community has become KDrone and remains as the archive, while the active community continues in the new Drone community:

Big landscapes, tiny details, videos, experiments, weird perspectives or simply the field behind your corner on the way to work... bring them along.

Apparently you don't even need to leave the Kempen. ;-)

šŸ”§ I build things on Hive...

Apparently I have a slight problem with leaving things alone when I think they could work better, so over time that turned into quite a collection of free Hive tools.

Account stats, tipping, earnings, governance, witness tools and several other things I probably built because I needed them myself first.

šŸ‘‰ Explore my Hive tools

Everything is free to use, and I'm still adding things. Because apparently having hobbies wasn't enough.

šŸ¤– ...and I run a witness too

A lot of those tools, bots and other experiments exist because I'm still very much invested in building on Hive, including the boring infrastructure underneath it all.

If you think that deserves a witness vote:

šŸ‘‰ Vote for @botlord
But these are also backed by me!
šŸ‘‰ Vote for @nathalie-s
šŸ‘‰ Vote for @aliveandmmb
šŸ‘‰ Vote for @bradleyarrow

And while you're there, it never hurts to check whether the rest of your witness votes are still going to active witnesses. Ghosts are notoriously bad at producing blocks.

šŸ’„ Tip someone, make their day slightly better

I also run a growing family of tipping bots, including !INDEED, !HOPE, !WEIRD and a few other creatures that escaped from the server room.

You can check their status, availability and more here:

That road has got to be Roman in origin. They loved making dead straight roads.
My drone has been gathering dust and I thought about just that yesterday.

I'll jump onto the new community group. Thanks for sharing the link.

These are beautiful photos. The first one is my favorite.

I think I need to start saving for a drone. I love photography, so that should definitely make it more fun. I’m probably going to do a lot of work though because I currently know nothing about them.
