Mourning Motivation

After what I can only guess is a couple years worth of #threetunetuesday posts, I am finally at the point where I can't remember what songs I have shared with you and which ones I haven't. As nothing is really sticking out to me at the moment, I am going to skip it this week. I almost feel like I can only share new new songs with you here as most of the old ones I enjoy I have probably already covered. I thought about sharing some of my favorite showtunes, but I figure that would probably go over about as well as sharing my favorite classical songs.

You're welcome!

It's getting to be that time of year that I kind of dread. More specifically as far as my HIVE account goes. I have a mad amount of respect for people who can come up with detailed and engaging content on a daily basis. Some might argue I do, and while I appreciate the kind words, I don't necessarily agree.

Summer is easy. @mrsbozz and I are out camping and doing things, we might travel a bit, and there is always a lot going on. Tons of things to blog about. Meanwhile, as Fall settles in and the weather starts to turn colder, there isn't as much to write about besides how I stayed in my PJs all weekend and watched football. Sure, it sounds amazing, but it isn't really that enthralling to read about.

I've been trying to think of a series that I might be able to start that could possibly resonate with some of my readers. I've attempted to do posts about what I am watching on TV in the past, but those don't seem to get a lot of traction. Of course, many would argue I should just post about what I want to and it shouldn't matter if they get comments or upvotes, but I think we all know that isn't very realistic.

HIVE is considered a social network after all and the social network without the social aspect doesn't really work that well. I also thought about doing some posts from a tech standpoint, but I don't really know what I would cover at this point. In my early days on HIVE I had a great series where I would cover new and exciting Chrome extensions. Unfortunately, many extensions end up having malware or spyware these days and Google is actually in the process of hobbling many extensions right now, so I am not sure picking that back up would be worth it.

I have a Google Keep list of topics that I plan on writing posts about eventually, but I know even that will eventually dry up. Actually, as I look at the list now I see the I have 128 completed items on the list. That's a little over a third of a year's worth of posts. I guess that's not really too bad! Granted, I think some of the topics I either combined into a single post, or I gave up on them, but it's still pretty close to a 1/3 of a year. That's pretty crazy.

With the leaves starting to fall of the trees here in Michigan I can't help but think of how symbolic it is of my story ideas falling to the ground. Pretty soon my creative tree is going to be totally bare and the cold wind of winter is going to put my creativity on ice! It's a scary thought. Then what? I'm basically crap posting simply because I feel like I have to?

I was actually going through some old drawers the other day and I found a couple journals that my wife made for me when we first got married. I used to journal pretty much every night when I was younger, but somehow I have fallen out of the habit. I think part of the reason is because I write here on HIVE instead. I've always said, I do it for myself as much as I do it for the people who read my posts. Is that really the same? I don't know.

Then I think about motivation and what are the things that might motivate you to write on HIVE. Even more important, what are you motivated to write about? There is a huge difference between what you write about and how you gather the energy to actually do the writing.

I struggle too, and not overly worried about it anymore. When I feel like writing, I write what ever comes to mind. If people read it, they read it. Frankly hardly anyone reads my blog anyway. Most votes I get are auto votes with no eyeballs. That's alright, it is more for me to just get things off my chest most times or exercise my brain.

I think my blog is the same way. Mostly just autovotes without much interaction. Probably more than most though.

You do pretty good for interaction from what I can tell. I would trade the auto votes for that type of action haha

I don't think it's possible to blog every day and still provide content that is worth reading. It is discouraging to get no feedback, but then I figure when that happens someone somewhere read it.

Ever since my early days on Hive (and its predecessor) I have followed the blogging advice of @mathowl: Blog about something that interests you. That way, you know you will have at least one satisfied reader.

You do a lot of blogging, and mostly the blogs are interesting to read. Life will offer you more material. As Nora Ephron once said, "Everything is copy." Even if you stand still, the world around you will change.

Good luck finding the motivation and inspiration :)

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm sure stuff will come along. I might just have to get used to fewer eyes seeing it. No big deal I guess. I just always have this minor sense of dread when I know this time of year is coming!

The day has finally arrived that there is no Three Tune Tuesday, I've been there and still struggle for something new every week. I do end up with repeats at times. But at times it's nice to change things up. When I was younger I was better about keeping a journal as well, but fell out the habit years ago. I have been writing my memoirs as of late giving may family years from now something about my life and the world I lived in. One thing I can tell you is I miss being younger and more energetic, those were the days! lol

Hive not a bad way of journal keeping either, and theoretically will be here forever. The internet is supposed to be an eternal storage of documents, I do hope it works out that way down the line.

Enjoy those leaves changing colors, it's beautiful time of year!

Yeah, it was really hard for me not to try and fit some kind of song into this post, but I just wasn't feeling it today. I might need to start looking for some more obscure stuff to keep me going. I don't know. That sounds like a good idea about writing your memoirs. My life has been full, but not super exciting, so I am not sure who would want to read them!

For awhile I was keeping a spreadsheet with the songs I covered, but I fell behind and eventually stopped doing it. I'm sure I have shared some songs multiple times. Oh well. I figure if they are good songs, the deserve to be covered more than once!

That is a good way to look at it!

Writer's block is an interesting one. I have 100s if not 1000s of pictures that I have not gone through from trips and holidays in last 2-3 years. So it is more Can't Be Arsed than writer's block.

Repeating tunes I do worry about that, but I think I am okay lol

You will always have snow pictures to write about though!

Oh man, I wish that were the case for me. I wouldn't mind having all of those photos to use for posts. I guess realistically I probably have more than I realize, but can I tell a story with them?

Reminds me of what my mother said when I was a wee boy, Edward you Can do anything .... so yes you can bozz!

I really like the leaves picture! I think you might have better fall colors then we do here on the West Coast. In terms of motivation and what to write I could also write technical stuff, but I doubt many people here would find it interesting if I wrote about Azure Kubernetes or Sitecore content management technical implementation details :) Though I could make a separate Sitecore only blog on my other Splinterlands Hive account and use it to get a Sitecore MVP :) Could bring some readers to Hive, but I doubt they will stay... Also, means multi-accounting on Hive and will probably reduce my ability to write on my main blog...

It depends on the year here. Sometimes they are quite brilliant, then others they are more muted and it isn't quite as cool. I have some fantastic shots from our fall camping trips over the past decade or so. Yeah, I think it would be some really niche stuff unless it deals directly with HIVE for the tech content.
