Typically when my wife and I head down to Ohio to visit her sister's family, we are rushing around going to this softball game or that basketball game. The weekends seem to be filled with something and the time spent down there is always far too short. In the past, we would stay at the house with my sister in law and her family, but since our oldest niece moved home and had a baby of her own, space is at a minimum.
Pushing 50 years old, sleeping on a couch doesn't have the same appeal that it used to shy of a mid-afternoon nap. Although it costs a bit more money, @mrsbozz and I decided a while ago that we are going to start staying in a hotel when we go down to visit. There are several right within walking distance of their house, but we tend to gravitate towards the Embassy Suites.
If you have never stayed at an Embassy Suites, it's a Hilton brand hotel and they are mostly known for three things. First, they usually have a large atrium in the center with all of the rooms surrounding it. Second, each evening they have a ambassadors reception where paying guests get free (well) drinks and some snacks. Finally, each morning you also get a full (hot) breakfast with a made to order omelette station.
As I said, things were a little more relaxed this weekend even though we were down there for our nieces high school graduation. Since most of the activities weren't until later in the day, we actually had the luxury of sleeping in (though we still woke up at 6:30 AM), and we also got to take a walk each morning. The hotel sits back by a commerce park with lots of office buildings and a nice paved path that looped through the area an then back to the hotel.
We clocked a solid mile and a half each day and we accomplished this distance in a span of about forty minutes. Perhaps a little slower on the second day. I had wanted to take my old broken in shoes, but @mrsbozz nixed that because the one shoe has a hole in it. She hates those shoes. She suggested I take a newer pair of shoes she had just gotten me.
The problem was, those shoes weren't broken in, so after the first day, I had a nice sore starting on the achilles area of my left foot. By the end of the second day it was a painful bloody mess, and to be honest I was a bit annoyed that I hadn't been able to bring the shoes I wanted to bring in the first place.
As you can see, even though we were in the middle of the city, there is a lot to look at in this area. The greens were quite impressive even when you contrast them against the blue morning sky. In case I didn't mention it before, I am including this post in the #wednesdaywalk tag started by @tattoodjay.
It was fairly brisk in the morning, but once you got out into the open and the sun was shining on you, it was actually a really pleasant day. Being a holiday weekend, I have a feeling most of the businesses were closed down and we actually ran into very few other people on the walking path. If I lived down in this area, I would walk on this path quite frequently I think. That's one of the things I love about this part of the greater Columbus, OH area. There are tons of great walking paths.
As we made the final corner, you can see the hotel just off in the center of the photo above. It's kind of hidden behind the trees, but it's actually not that bad of a distance. If it hadn't been for my heel hurting so bad, we probably could have went around the loop another time for a solid three mile walk.
The home stretch of the walk also takes you past a fantastic little ice cream chain called Graeter's. They have locations spread across the midwest and if you ever get the chance to visit one, I highly recommend it. Since they weren't open, and we still hadn't had breakfast yet, we just kept walking past back to the hotel.
After expending all that energy, it was time for a refuel. This is basically what I had every morning we stayed at the Embassy Suites. Cubed potatoes, a little bit of bacon, and a western omelette. If you aren't familiar with a western omelette, it comes with peppers, onions, ham, and cheese all mixed together and wrapped up with eggs. It was absolutely fantastic!
Finally, I just wanted to leave you with this cool building we saw on our walk. It has kind of sloped sides like an upside down pyramid. It would be cool to see what it looks like from the inside. I'm glad @mrsbozz and I were able to go on these walks each morning. Despite the lingering injury to my left foot, it gave us the kick start we needed to make it through all the chaos of the rest of the day.
You have draft a lovely post
Its a beautiful walk out
Thanks for sharing
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Yes I agree I am to at an age where a couch is fine for a nap but not for a nights sleep, i have stayed at a few of their hotels and have always found them great but i didnt know about the free drinks, is that new or has it always been the case
The grounds there are so beautiful
and yeah I bet you wish you had your old shoes, my wife is the same with my shoes ones they get holes or worn down she doesnt like me wearing them, luckily most of my walks are early morning while she is still sleeping so she doesnt have a say in the shoes I wear, and i generally have plenty of time to break in new shoes on short walks before tkaing them on my longer walks
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day
I think that has always been the case. At least for the last couple of decades anyway. My brother in law usually books there with his friends for that reason alone. We had limited space to pack, so I didn't get much of a say with the shoes!
I probably didnt notice the free drinks, as the times i stayed in them I really was just there to sleep and was out and about most of the time

I love how you and @mrsbozz still made time to walk and enjoy the scenery even with a busy weekend ahead. That omelette made me hungry 😂 and I feel you on the new shoes — I had the same problem during our school field trip and ended up limping halfway through.
I'm so sorry you had to suffer through that. Foot pain is the worst! The omelette was so delicious!
Unless you have a really good brand of shoes like Brooks non-broken in shoes do tend to do that... Too bad it kind of ruined the walking experience for you the next day.
In summer Ohio looks almost like Washington state - very green.
Brooks are too expensive for my budget! I usually only buy shoes if they are on sale and I can get them for $50 or less!
True, they usually are quite expensive. The ones I just threw away one pair I bought on sale like 8 years ago and the other one was a present from my mother in-law about four years ago and I wore those every day beating them to a pulp.

Embassy Suites is a nice, reliable place to stay that isn't too expensive. I don't travel as much anymore now, but that was always a solid choice. Sorry to hear about the bloody mess from the new shoes, until they're broken in properly that can really suck. And you were putting in some pretty good mileage!
That breakfast looks great, plus free well drink are a perk in the evening. Only problem is they're well drinks! lol! I'm glad you had a comfortable stay and it sure beats sleeping on the couch!
Yeah, the first night I asked what kind of whiskey they had. They said it was called "Early Times". Never heard of it before, so I ordered some. I didn't expect much and I was absolutely disappointed. I went up to my room and grabbed the bottle of Buffalo Trace I had brought with me. I have the stretchers in those shoes now.
Early Times really sucks, it's like vodka with food coloring in it and tastes horrible! One would hope for Evan Williams or Jim Beam for well whiskey... Buffalo Trace tastes much, much better! lol

I hate getting new shoes. I always wear mine until they have so many holes that they are practically falling apart. My wife hates it too, saying that it makes me look like a homeless bum. I always reply I don't care what others think. How fast those old shoes disappear and new ones replace them always depends on if she can manage to throw them away without me noticing and stopping her.
I usually have a rotation. If they are not new enough to wear "out", then they get moved to the camping pile. When they have outlived their life as camping shoes, they then get moved to the lawn mowing pile.

No matter what you say or do, it cannot change the truth of what we have exposed. As we all know, transactions on a blockchain don’t lie. We urge everyone to review what we’ve shared: WHEN THEY STOP, WE STOP SHARING THE TRUTH.
SPEAK UP. MAKE NOISE. TAKE A STAND.
Key Issues That Demand Immediate Attention:
The problems are glaring, undeniable, and corrosive to the Hive ecosystem. They must be addressed without delay:
These practices harm not just individual users—they undermine the very foundation of Hive, eroding trust and poisoning the community. Such actions are unethical and outright destructive.

The blockchain data tells the story plainly and clearly. We are not fabricating these claims; we are merely presenting what is already visible for all to see. As we’ve repeatedly urged @themarkymark & Co—the solution is simple: STOP.
SO PLEASE STOP. It’s time to do what’s right for Hive and its community. Why cling to practices that harm others? Power down, step away, and let Hive thrive as it was meant to. You bring nothing positive to this ecosystem.
THOSE WHO ARE WATCHING—THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU.
PLEASE STOP.
We’ve shown that we’re here to stay and have exposed the truth. So why has nothing been done? Do @themarkymark and @blocktrades own the Hive Blockchain? Is that why no action is being taken?
