It was another trip back to Cleveland for my nieces travel softball team this past weekend. Unfortunately, thanks to the weather, the results were kind of similar to how they went last weekend. At least in terms of the overall tournament. As I wrote in the post today from my @bozz account, the Cleveland area got a ton of rain over the weekend.
I think this is a pretty common occurrence being right on the shores of Lake Erie. There is likely some sort of ecological system that causes Cleveland to get an abnormal amount of rain. What happens then is ball fields get flooded and if you aren't able to get them ready in time, you need to start cancelling games. Apparently, the same thing happened last weekend when they were playing in this area.
Actually, according to my brother in law, this happens every time they play in Cleveland...
By the time the ladies had finished their second game on Friday, bracket play for Sunday had already been cancelled because there were teams on Friday night who had yet to play a single game.
It was just a hot wet cluster of a weekend.
The ladies started the day on Friday with a big 10 to 3 win over a team from Pennsylvania and then another win against another Ohio team 5 to 1.
Finally, after a lot of sitting around and waiting, their final game on Saturday was a rough 11 to 1 loss against a Thunder Elite Premier team.
I was talking to my niece the other day and I asked her if she got tired of always playing the same teams over and over again. She said yes, but honestly it's not that different from when you are playing school ball and you keep seeing the same teams in your conference each week.
I also overheard her talking to someone else and she was explaining how much more fun she is having now that she doesn't need to worry about getting recruited to college.
See those three ladies in the foreground of the above photo? Those are all college coaches scouting the talent waiting to see if there is something they like. They aren't just looking for hitting and fielding skills, they are also looking to see how you react when you make a mistake. Watching your attitude after you strike out can be quite telling as to what kind of player you are going to be and what kind of energy you are going to bring to the club house.
Anyway, my niece was talking about how she doesn't care anymore as much. She didn't mean it in a bad way of course, she just meant that the pressure is off now and she can just have fun playing versus worrying about if a university coach is going to want her.
It was a great weekend spent with family and we had some really good bonding time with our niece off the softball fields as well, so you can't really ask for more than that.
