My last post began with "...and now something completely different...", so I can't use the same phrase again, but it is different from my ordinary content... And I used the phrase again... š Sorry... But, if you go through this post, I suppose that I will have to ask for an apology many times at the end of the post... š
I can't remember that I was posting some "funny content" on my blog, but today, I was checking videos on YouTube and sometimes bumped into the video that I liked a lot when it was created, 14 years ago! Somehow, it looks to me that I have known about it whole my life and not just 15 years... :)
I was trying to remember who introduced the song to me, but I have no idea anymore... But, as I like that kind of humor, I can understand why I fell in love with it... š
Let's get straight to the point... It is a funny, catchy video/song which is a bit absurd, but very catchy... Take your time to watch it and we can continue the discussion... š
As much as the video is absurd and weird, I have shown it to many people and I didn't find any person who didn't love it... And I know some very "conservative" people... lol... The creator of the video and the music is Mr. Weebl, aka Jonti Picking, and if you like this one, you can follow him on YouTube... After creating this, the video became ultra-popular (at the moment it has 63M views), but Jonti's work became even more popular when he accepted the offer to show part of Narwhals in the Sprint Commercial $50 Unlimited Plan...
I guess you'd say it's kind of surreal, absurdist humor made as catchy as possible to sort of stick in your head and annoy you. The earworm thing always struck me as something that is intensely annoying but at the same time kind of enjoyable. So I focused on that. It's very hard to explain because I try not to overthink the initial idea.
Mr. Weebl, aka Jonti Picking describing his videos for huffpost.com
But, Narwhals wasn't the first big success of Jonti... Even before YouTube, he created the popular Badger Badger Badger or The Badger Song back in 2003! By the way, all animations were made in Adobe Flash, which was one (if not the only) of the most popular animation programs... The Badger song has "only" 31 million views, but the main reason is that the song was the most popular BEFORE the YT era, and it was later uploaded to the platform...
Of course, when you have something so popular, you get FOMOed by other musicians and artists who want to jump on the celebrity train by creating covers, or their versions of popular songs... But before checking out them, we should take a look at Mr.Weebl's jazz version of Narwhals...
After this fantastic cover, we can check out other "independent" versions that are out there on YouTube... Like the electronic version signed by DJ Terrum Hands Up Remix
Btw, if you want to show the Narwhals song to a child, I suppose it would not be appropriate to do it with the original version... In that case, you can play the version by JellyBug that is more suitable (the video is changed a bit š)
There is a trap version of Narwhals and I was thinking about showing it or not as it's not the best quality, but you can decide if you like it or not...
Now that we have checked all available versions (as I know about), we have just one more video... In Mr. Weebl's interview, he mentioned that he likes animals a lot and it looks like he is especially interested in sea animals... So, they have a special video compilation where you can see 5 popular songs in 1 video, including Narwhals as a last one, but this time, with additional animation scenes that were not present in the original video! The video is named simply Sealife A selection of animated songs by Mr Weebl
There is another one more video that became very popular, but I will just leave the name of the video and if you liked the above, you will easily find it on YT... It is called Amazing Horse

hahahaha... The Monty Python influence is too strong... š š¤£
Guess we will not get rid of it in our lifetime ....
Apart from the fact that it is funny, it is actually entertaining with the character šš
Heheheheh... I'm glad that you liked it! As the creator said... it is catchy, and funny, but also annoying at the same time... š
Exactly šš
Hahaha such type of animation are always make us laugh š, it's a nice to read your post in morning with a cup of tea š and now you can relate how's I'm feeling š

The jazz version is excellent š¤£.
To be honest, I found that version before getting the idea to create the post... And that jazz version was a trigger to create the post! That version sounds awesome! šµš¶
Lol. It's something that stays in your head for a bit. I guess it will take some time to forget it. I don't think it's bad but I also don't think I will be listening to it much.
hahahaha... You don't have to listen to it ever, but it stays carved in your brain... šš¤£
The songs are actually cool
They seem like baby song
I wonder how you forgot who introduced the song to you, hahaha
They sound like baby songs, which also can be annoying after repeating them hundreds of times... š¤£
Great! I think I found what tunes I'm rocking to this weekend š
Hahahaah... Ready or not, you are addicted now... š¤£
What a blast from the past indeed! I remember the "Narwhals" video and how it became an earworm for days.
It's good to see how some videos manage to capture our attention and stay in our memories for years. This got me thinking about the role of nostalgia in the lasting appeal of such viral content. =D
For years and years... and decades... lol... I didn't know that it was used in the commercial, but I suppose that it brought a lot of profits and eyeballs to the advertised product!
Nostalgia is a powerful tool for advertising... I remember when Diablo III came out after years and years of promises and delays... It was pure nostalgia that "pre-sold" the game as only the "older" generation knew how addicting the game is...
It's fascinating how it can serve as a potent marketing tool, as you pointed out with Diablo III. I think nostalgia has a unique way of connecting us to our past while also influencing our present choices, whether it's in gaming, music, or even advertising.
Thanks for the engaging conversation. Looking forward to more nostalgic trips down memory lane!
I haven't heard these songs before now I have heard some and will listen some at night so they are very good.
...and you will sing them for a long, long time... š š¤£
Hahahah š
Badger, badger, badger
Nooooooooo!
Hahahahaha...
