Hello again dear Hivers. Every July of the year, Nutrition Month is always celebrated here in the Philippines. We celebrate it in order to remind our community about NUTRITION and other matters regarding Healthy lifestyle. Due to typhoon, our municipal mayor move it today supposedly on July 31, 2025 about the said activity.
I come to witness the Nutrition Culminating Activity since I also went to the Local Registrar Office to verify about my PSA. I'm very happy when my friend texted me that they did not start yet the main program. I arrived there exactly the masters of ceremonies kick off the said event. Here, each barangay has their own representative for the competition. We have ten barangays to participate. But before the competition begin, our municipal mayor gave a welcome message and talked about why we were there that is to celebrate nutrition month. He then remind parents to be careful what their children eating like they should be the one to indulge in eating nutritious food and teach their children not to eat junkfoods.
Moving on, the Nutritionist discussed important matters regarding nutrition which are the following:
°Food is human right and not a privilege;
°Buy local, support our farmers.
°Grow food gardens for self -sufficiency;
°Waste less buy and store consume food wisely;
°What communities can do to practice waste reduction;
°Apply and support our local farmers help them purchasing their local products; and among others.
After the discussion, the competition begin. There is cooking where each barangay has a representative which comprised of a daughter and a father. They are given time to prepare and cook what they had prepared. I roamed around to take pictures of what they are going to cook. As I noticed we don't have a contestant in our barangay which I didn't ask about.
After the cooking competition, it's the vegetables and fruit display but they already displayed and sell them. These products brought by are mostly fresh from the garden. It's because the people here in our Municipality are farmers (including me), so we have a lot of grown vegetables.
Because it's already lunch, we decided to eat first and continue at one o'clock.
The next competition is the Nutri-Fashion Show with a twist because for now, it's the adult who did the fashion show contest which was before, the kids or teen who were the one do this. The concept is based on the criteria that has been made. But ofcourse the design of their outfit must be indigenous or all about nutrition as it is the main idea. Every barangay have their own costume to wear and they are going to say something about what they made. They ramp infront of us by pair. While watching them, I'm amazed that they are confident to speak infront of us even some are not used to speak in front of other people.
When the Nutri-Fashion Show done, it's the Question and Answer Portion for the crowd. The MC ask about a question about Nutrition Month but I did not participate, I just watch and applause when someone get the answer. There's also a competition about healthy baby but they held in the Municipal Health Station so, I did not see the contestants. So, these are the activities happened in celebrating our Nutrition Month. Then afterwards they announced the winners. In Nutri-Fashion Show, our barangay got a consolation prize which is good atleast we participated. In healthy baby, we got the third place.
So this nutrition month celebration,everyone really enjoyed it. We learned so many things that we can apply in our life. Thus, we should eat healthy food and have a balanced diet.

I find a time in which people are thinking about healthier eating habits very important!
Unfortunately, many parents prefer taking their children to fast-food restaurants instead of cooking healthy (for example traditional) meals themselves or simply offering them vegetables or fruits. Additionally, in Philippine supermarkets, far too many products are not offered in their natural form (pure milk or 100% fruit juice), but with unnecessary added sugar!
Nice to see all that healthy but also delicious food in your post!
I also like the rules mentioned by the nutritionst about how to eat healthier and more sustainable. I would agree to them all.
That's what other parents don't avoid where they take their children in fast food. It's not bad to eat in fast food restaurants but we should limit eat.
Reading this, as biologist I would agree that fast food in general is not healthy. It won't harm your health a lot if you eat it now and then, but if it becomes an essential part of your diet it might cause some damage. I think for example this article highlights the disadvantages of fast food rather well.

A yearly event to showing talents in cooking
Yes, it's part of the activity wherein every barangay should have a participant but this time we do not have.
