Beer Saturday - Quilmes Stout

I was doing some groceries today when I got hit by an urge to have a nice cold beer. But not just any beer. For some reason I was craving for a stout.

Now, I'm not a huge stout drinker. In fact, "darker" beers are not really my thing. But, for some reason, today I really felt like having a stout and no other type of beer would quench my thirst.

The problem is Stouts are not very popular where I live, unless, of course, you go to a place that specializes in beer, which was not the case.

I was concerned that I would not be able to find any Stout in the grocery store where I was, and I was almost right. After searching the entire beer section, I was ready to give up, frustrated for not being able to find the beer I wanted, but then, hidden in a partially closed cardboard box, I found it! The Quilmes Stout!

I'm familiar with Quilmes, an Argentine brand, but I only knew their pilsner and I had no idea they also made Stouts. I don't know if that's a new thing but it was a surprise nonetheless.

I didn't think twice and decided to bring it home with me!

I couldn't find a chilled one in the supermarket so I had to wait for it to be cold enough which was a bit frustrating but after some time it was ready to go!

The first thing I want to mention is that I really like the can!

It has this really nice hue of metallic gray with hints of blue in it that really seems to translate the general idea of this beer.

The top of the can is gold which I guess is common for most stouts that are sold in a can but still goes really well with this can.

When I poured it into a glass, it looked just like what I expected: a very dark and opaque color characteristic of stouts. It had good foam, too!

And now, for the most important part: the taste!

The Quilmes stout tastes just as you would expect: bitter with hints of coffee and chocolate. I dare to say it's a bit on the sweet side for my taste but that's a matter of preference and I don't hold it against the beer at all.

While this isn't a "top shelf" stout, I would easily recommend it to anyone who enjoys dark beer and is willing to try something new.

Eu estava fazendo compras hoje quando fui atingido por uma vontade imensa de tomar uma boa cerveja gelada. Mas não qualquer cerveja. Por alguma razão, eu estava sedento por uma stout.

Eu não costumo beber stouts. Na verdade, cervejas escuras não são as minhas preferidas. Mas, por alguma razão, hoje eu realmente queria uma stout e nenhum outro tipo de cerveja seria capaz de saciar minha sede.

O problema é que as stouts não são muito populares onde eu moro, a não ser, é claro, que você vá a um lugar que é especializado em cerveja, o que não era o caso.

Eu estava preocupado que não seria capaz de encontrar nenhuma stout no mercado em que estava e eu estava quase certo. Depois de procurar por toda a seção de cerveja eu estava pronto para desistir, frustrado por não encontrar a cerveja que eu queria, mas então, escondida em uma caixa de papelão parcialmente fechada, eu a encontrei! A Quilmes Stout!

Eu já conhecia a Quilmes, uma marca argentina, mas eu só conhecia a pilsner deles e não fazia ideia de que eles também faziam stouts. Eu não sei se é uma coisa nova, mas foi uma surpresa de qualquer maneira.

Não pensei duas vezes e decidi levar ela para casa comigo!

Eu não encontrei nenhuma gelada no mercado então tive que esperar que ela estivesse gelada o suficiente, o que foi um pouco frustrante, mas algum tempo depois ela estava pronta!

A primeira coisa que quero mencionar é que eu realmente gostei da lata!

Ela tem essa cor cinza metálico muito bonita com algumas notas de azul que realmente parecem traduzir a ideia geral da cerveja.

A parte de cima da lata é dourada, o que eu acho que é comum para a maioria das stouts que são vendidas em lata mas ainda assim combina muito com essa lata.

Quando a coloquei no copo, foi exatamente o que eu esprava: uma cor bem escura e opaca, bem característica das stouts. A espuma era muito boa também!

E agora, o mais importate: o sabor!

A Quilmes stout tem exatamente o sabor esperado: amargo com notas de café e chocolate. Eu ouso dizer que ela é um pouco doce para o meu gosto, mas isso é uma questão de preferência e não apontaria como um ponto negativo da cerveja.

Apesar de não ser uma stout "de primeira', eu a recomendaria tranquilamente para qualquer um que goste de cerveja escura e esteja disposto a experimentar algo novo.
