Hello to this wonderful community! Today, I would love to share a meaningful story about our traditional way of celebrating Chinese New Year, a tradition that holds deep value in our family and in our hearts. This celebration is not just about colors, food, and festivities—it is about faith, remembrance, and hope for better days ahead.

Early in the morning, while the sky was still calm and the streets slowly came alive, our family gathered at the small stall owned by my grandmother. This place may look simple to others, but for us, it is filled with memories, laughter, and generations of stories. Holding the Chinese New Year celebration there has always been a tradition in our family, passed down with love and respect.

As many of us know, Chinese beliefs never fail to remind us of hope, luck, and new beginnings. For our family, this belief has always been strong. The event started quickly but beautifully. The sound of drums echoed through the area, loud and rhythmic, instantly capturing everyone’s attention. Soon after, we watched in awe as two colorful dragons appeared, dancing gracefully while moving in perfect harmony with the drummers. Each beat of the drum felt like a heartbeat—strong, powerful, and full of life.

The dragon dance is more than just a performance. In Chinese tradition, it symbolizes the driving away of bad luck and the welcoming of good fortune. As the dragons moved, twisted, and bowed, it felt as though they were blessing every corner of the place. People gathered around, smiling, taking photos, and quietly making wishes in their hearts.

Of course, no Chinese New Year celebration is complete without petchay and angpao (ampaw). These are known as important pampaswerte in our tradition. Petchay symbolizes longevity and prosperity, while angpao represents blessings, good luck, and positive energy for the coming year. These were carefully prepared as part of the celebration, showing how much thought and respect were given to every detail.
Suddenly, as the dragons danced closer, the excitement grew even more. The energy in the air was contagious. Children laughed, elders smiled, and everyone seemed united in that single moment of joy. It felt incredibly special—almost magical.

What made this celebration even more emotional was the story behind it. This tradition was once paused when my grandfather passed away due to sickness. His absence left a deep emptiness in our family, and for a long time, the celebration no longer felt complete. Because of that pain, the tradition stopped. The drums were silent, and the dragons no longer danced for several years.
That is why this year felt different.
This year, my grandmother made the brave and heartfelt decision to continue the tradition once again. It was not an easy choice, but it was a beautiful one. Through this celebration, it felt like we were honoring not only the new year but also the memories of my grandfather. It was as if his presence was still there, quietly watching over us, proud that the tradition he once cherished was alive again.
Everyone present felt thankful and blessed to witness this event. Some people shared stories, others offered prayers, and many simply stood there, taking in the moment. It reminded us that traditions are not just rituals—they are bridges between the past and the present, connecting loved ones even when they are no longer physically with us.
Chinese New Year only comes once a year, which makes it even more meaningful. It gives us a chance to pause, reflect, and start again with hope in our hearts. Seeing my grandmother smile while watching the dragons dance was one of the most touching moments of the day. It showed strength, resilience, and the power of continuing despite loss.
I am truly grateful that we were able to witness this celebration again. It reminded us of the importance of family, faith, and cultural heritage. I am also hoping that in this community, there are others—especially those with Chinese roots—who have experienced similar traditions and emotions during Chinese New Year.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I hope you enjoyed it and felt a bit of the joy and meaning behind our celebration. May this year bring good luck, good health, and happiness to everyone in this community. Have a wonderful day ahead 🧧✨
