When Boundaries Are Tested!

Well, it's past midnight here, and I've come to rant, vent about an incident that happened within the week. I'm done processing it so I just want to get it all out and see how I feel about it in the calm of the night.
I think it's high time people learnt that there's something called "boundaries", and then try to respect it. Because what in the name of pushing boundaries is this? Out of the blues, you're video calling someone on WhatsApp - someone you're not acquainted with, probably because you got their contact.
On Tuesday evening while going through my WhatsApp, I noticed a message I missed the previous day - it simply said "Good evening, how's work?" So I quickly replied, apologizing for the late response, and equally asked about their work.
Few hours later, a reply came, "Thank God."
And that was it - no more messages or context just silence. Wow, just wow! It felt like a joke, or like the sender is one hell of an unserious individual. Or maybe they just lacked courtesy. Like, if you're gonna reach out, at least have the basic courtesy to introduce yourself or explain what the heck you're about.
I checked their profile and got little clue - a female picture, which obviously wasn't the sender, and an email address.
Since they lack courtesy, I was ready to teach them. Hehehe. So the following day, I sent another message: "I don't seem to know who you are... please can you let me know?"
Asking who they were was fair - they initiated contact, even though they didn't follow through. Moreover, it was my business line, so the sender could be a prospect, client, or maybe an admirer or even a spammer. Who knows.
Intererestingly, I got no reply.
Could you believe what they did few hours later? They video-called me, amidst a busy office task.
Dammit, I was pissed by their action. Like why would someone cross that boundary like that? The audacity!
Well, I didn't take or cut it off, I just ignored it till the last ring.....
Before the last ring, I was fuming, and contemplating on what to do next because that call destabilised me, derailing my focus. Well, It took time to calm down and get back on track.
After the incident, it left me wondering why people fail to respect boundaries when handling contacts. WhatsApp's supposed to make communication easier, not a free pass to invade someone's space.
Now I look back and laugh. Normally I'd have lashed out with angry messages. But since I didn't know who it was, I let it go. I wasn't ready to play into their behaviour, for my self's sake.

A lot of people don't understand boundaries not do they fully comprehend what it means to themselves and others.
Thankfully, you didn't lash out at the person nor did you reply with angry messages berating them for their lack of propriety.
Contacts like this should be blocked A.S.A.P. Such a person can't be a prospective customer because if he is, then he or she has shown great unprofessionalism.
It's just disheartening, and when you try to let them know that they're crossing boundaries, they'll call you all manner of names.
It took a lot for me to have not told them a piece of my mind. Who knows what their reaction would have been. So I had to prioritize my peace.
I doubt if some people know what professionalism is.

I think that many people do not even know when they cross boundaries because they were raised in societies where it was normal to do so. All the same, it is an adult responsibility to unlearn such behaviour, and I never fail to call it out. I'm also glad your resolve was to let it go because that's the only way to get over it. I totally agree. There are so many things we learnt that need unlearning, and it behoves on one to do so.
