Tired but Wired : Midnight Letters Prompt #20

My body begs, but my mind negotiates. Sedation as the dusk settles.

The cortisol spike delayed, the first half in agony. The rush at midday, tired but wired. The body feels the need to rest, but the mind is charged with adrenaline.

The mind feels the need to be entertained.
Shows or movies, anything that will keep it moving.
The energy to do nothing concrete.

The feeling when you go out at night, sitting with estranged friends.
You agreed, so you went.
The decision was a drag from the start, but as you settle, familiar faces take you places, a deep dive into the old self.
Conversations from one end to another.
A change you were part of, yet kept a blind eye to.

The scurry to go home and keep on the change. You see a person who struggled throughout his whole life, now he has something meaningful. You see the world provides better.

But as the doorstep arrives, the mind is so forward that the body cannot keep up. You even lie down, but the mind still rushes.

Rest taps like an old debt,
the rush of energy as I lie down,
a spark before the dark.
