Hello again, hope everyone is doing okay!
Finally, after 3 weeks we have our new starlink which we picked up recently, now its time to start blogging again!
Unfortunately, our original starlink that we had was hit by a rock which made a small crack on the top of the starlink - we didnt think much of it but didnt realize that rain would come in and destroy our starlink.
But - after 3 weeks we have a new one; thanks to some friends.
Lets get started...
This is where we anchorage, but just a small trip with our skiff we would be in Dog Salmon creek.
Why?
Its Salmon season, and this specific creek had Dog Salmon and we were after them!
Waiting for high tide, we drove up the river and starting fishing...
After 2 hours with no luck we decided to change technique...
Now catching Salmon isn't as easy!
So how do you catch them
Technique: The angler casts a weighted, hook-only line (often a large treble hook or a heavy lure) into an area where salmon are known to swim, such as a river, spawning ground or where you see them!
Method: Instead of the fish biting the hook (as in traditional fishing), the angler vigorously jerks ("snags") the line when a salmon swims near, intentionally hooking the fish in the body (side, back, or tail).
Key Point: The fish is not caught by mouth (which would suggest it bit the bait) but rather by forcefully impaling it elsewhere on its body.
However, we as sailors do need to be careful, because some areas it is illegal to snag as its considered to damage fish populations.
But as Dog Salmon as abundant we were allowed to snag them there.
Now that we switched techniques - we managed to catch two Dog Salmon in a matter of 10 minutes which really shocked us, which shows how important it is to not give up - as we were on the verge. Fishing requires loads of patience!
We only catch what we can eat - which means two Dog Salmon were enough for two dinners.
Thats all for today, l hope everyone enjoyed. Let me know what picture you liked best!
See you all soon,
Konquest.
Fascinating! Glad you could catch salmons for your dinner. That's a lovely place to go fishing too. Enjoyed learning about how to catch salmons. Loved all your photos too. Happy week ahead!
