Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog! Magic is becoming the meta in the lower leagues. This is because of the Frontier water archon that adds magic attacks to units. So today we'll take a look at a new reward card that's an anti-magic tank: The Thornmaw Berserker.

Her lore says she's a fierce warrior who carries a charm in battle. It's effect increases her health every time she does damage to enemies. Enemies also cannot resurrect or trigger abilities upon death. It also causes magic attacks to be hurled back at the enemies who cast them.
They say the charm she carries, a thorn-bound relic that stirs for battle, is older than the trees that shade Sylvaras. In Mora's grip, it drinks. Enemies she strikes wither and fail, their strength leached away by the charm's ancient will. The dead stay dead, their essence smothered before they can rise. Hexes hurled at her break across bark and thorn, the magic turned back upon the caster.
She marches across the Broken Lands with glaive in one hand and the old charm in the other, flat predator's gaze fixed on the horizon. Mahkah Hemlig will learn what Sylvaras already knows.

Thornmaw Berserker is a seven mana, common Death card of Avian bloodline. She deals three melee damage and has four speed. Her defensive stats include four armor and nine health. For a common card, she boasts of four abilities. Final Rest prevents abilities that trigger upon death to activate. Magic Reflect returns 50% of damage to caster. Life Leech increases health by 50% of damage dealt and Charge enables her to strike with melee from any position.

Thornmaw Berserker's primary role is to be an anti magic tank. She has decent defensive stats against physical attacks while Magic Reflect returns magic damage to the attacker. She has Life Leech to help sustain her in battle.
As for possible combos, fellow avian, Sira will be a good partner if used with archon Elowyn Sylphie who summons avians.

Sira will add to Thornmaw's defense, granting her Shield and Deflect abilities.
For Death units, Thraghun will be great at position two.

Thraghun has the Reach ability, enabling him to attack with melee from second position. He has dual attacks and can deal four physical damage each round from second position, while having Poison ability thus increasing the team's offense.

The featured battle shows Thornmaw Berserker in action against a magic team. The battle was in the Gold League with player EXTRARICE using Thornmaw in the tank position. He is supported by Arachne Weaver that has healing abilities. There is also Baron Fyatt in the team who halves the attack of its target. The rest of the team are damage dealers.
His enemy was SILENT-NINJA who used the Water magic team led by Marlai Singariel. I usually face teams like this with an all magic unit and they're not easy to beat without an anti magic ability. Thornmaw Berserker got defeated early but she sold her life dearly as each attack she received returned damage to the enemy. She held on long enough to allow her team to do damage to the enemy and claim victory.
