Gearnut and Slade the Indomitable Frontline Combo

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog. In today's post, we'll be looking into a strong frontline combo that we can use in our battles. I'm a fan of two tank combos in my teams and I use them a lot in my battles. I found one in the top battles that's very effective combining the defense of the first tank to the offense of the secondary off tank. The combo is Der Gottem Gearnut and Commander Slade.

Der Gottem Gearnut

Der Gottem Gearnut is a legendary Life and Dragon unit. His defensive stats are insane having four armor and huge health of twenty five. At max level he also gets defense against magic with Void ability.

Commander Slade

Commander Slade is an offensive tank with good defensive stats and abilities. He deals five melee damage and has six speed. On defense he boasts of seven armor and ten health. He can dodge physical attacks which complements his speed. He can also decrease the enemy tank's attack with his Enfeeble ability. He has Deflect making him good in Blast and Thorns rulesets and finally he has Backfire, to punish the enemy when it misses.

The Combo

For the combo to work, we need at minimum a level two Gearnut.

At this level his defensive stats are still huge but the important thing is his Flank ability that he gets at level two. It enables the second unit to have the Reach ability, allowing it to attack with melee from second position.

Featured Battle

The battle was played at the top levels of Gold League. The user of the combo was player CARGEEGEL who has support and damage dealers included in his team. The rest of the team were composed of the following units.

Tidal Tsunamist

Tidal Tsunamist deals three melee damage and has the Sneak ability to harass the enemy backline. She has the Repair ability making the tank combo beefier and harder to defeat.

Venka the Vile

Venka the file is a unit focused on offense. She has four melee damage and has the Charge ability allowing her to attack with melee from afar. She also has the Piercing ability, enabling extra damage to go through armor and damage the enemy's health.

Olivia of the Brook

Olivia of the Brook was a sensation when she first came out being the only unit with the unique Mimic ability. At long battles, she can copy and accumulate a lot of abilities making her an overpowered unit.

Kervik

Kervik is a low mana legendary card that deals four melee damage and has the Sneak ability. In this battle, she teams up with Tidal Tsunamist to harass the enemy back line.

Enemy Team and Battle

The enemy has also a strong line up led by Eternal Tofu archon. Hit tank was the legendary Mantaroth, a melee unit that has strong defense against physical attacks and also has terrific offense. He has the Armored Strike ability, using his armor as a melee attack. In second position he had the Thanalorian Blade, a unit I also use often because of her Execute ability. He also had Venka the Vile and Olivia of the Brook in his team so these are common units and used in the top levels of the game. He also had a Sneak attacker, Buttercup Mauler. In last position was a strong defensive unit that can absorb damage from Sneak attackers. It also has Taunt to attract enemy attacks.

The enemy had Thorns ability provided by Tofu archon. This gave him an advantage in this all melee battle. However, Commander Slade has the Deflect ability making him immune from Thorns damage. All of CARDEEGEL's units except for Slade suffered and died from Thorns damage. Gearnut's insane health and Slade's Deflect carried the team to victory.

If I know a gearnut is coming I will usually play water and just endlessly daze him. He costs so much that other cards are less special. Same if I suspect a Rage at the front.
