For this week's edition of splinterlands social media challenge, I will be sharing some of my past wins and losses and things I learned from them. But before I do that I would like to take a moment to reflect on how hard the season has been. It's been so challenging that I've had to break the bank several times to rent cards, but that also makes every win even more valuable for me. I spent about 32HBD in renting cards and still couldn't get all the cards I needed to win. But it also made me learn to maximize the use of what I had. Although I feel I didn't give it my all, there were times I hesitated a bit in my cards selections, there were times I should have played but didn't play and at the end of the day I'm far from where I started the season from. But then again, I will plan better for the next season and try to get the best out of it.
Some of my losses were really due to hesitation, what if I used death instead of earth, what if I used water instead of fire, what if I took a moment to check my opponent's previous battles and planned accordingly, what if I had just followed my instincts. Well I guess I would never know since I didn't do them. If there is one thing I've learned from my losses, it is that I lost not because I didn't have the cards, but because my opponent used their cards better in that battle. So I need to start learning to use my cards the right way at least 80% of the time. For example, the battle above would probably have been won if I used earth summoner. I thought about using it, but decided to go by default and used water in the end. I thought about the many magic advantages it would give me because if I had used my magic cards, I doubt my opponent would have stood a chance, but then again, I could never know.
My wins didn't come by chance either. I would say I calculated well, but really wished I could get it right most of the time. I guess practice just makes perfect in this case especially with how I defeat my opponent in this battle. It was a straight win for me seeing I only had one casualty while my opponent suffered quite a good number of them before being defeated. First of all the rule set was one I was very familiar with, so I immediately knew the elements that would work best. Bringing together the power of life and having rented a good number of cards with low mana cost, I predicted an easy win at the end of the day. Putting the neutral card with a self healing and magic reflection ability, while putting a life card with life leech and sneak attack ability in second position. I followed the remaining positions with scavenger ability, ranged attacker, affliction ability, and opportunity ability which all turned out well.
I feel a lot of players forget to get low mana cards, because 8 out of 10 players I've played with do not really have strong cards to fight back. Although I also think the cards selection is a thing of specialty. For me I decided to get a lot of common and rare cards with low mana cost because I figured there are times where the ruleset may not allow me to use epic or legendary summoners or cards. But then again, the only time I suffered was when the ruleset allowed only neutral cards or only death cards as I wasn't able to get enough cards under those elements putting me at a disadvantage. Either way, I have learned my lesson, and would be more strategic with my approach in the future.
Truth be told the splinterlands game is very unpredictable, but that’s just what makes it fun and if you think you will like to try out all the amazing experiences, feel free to join in here
