Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Synergy

Holla Gamers

Welcome to another blog post where I share amazing insights on my most profound Splinterlands battle this week.

RULESET

The ruleset for this game is to keep your distance which limits our options to monsters with range and magic attack. I was a bit tactical when picking my monsters as I had to weigh my options and go with the magic attack that I suspected would serve me more and I wasn't wrong.

While I chose a mixture of 4 magic attack monsters, 1 range attack and 1 return fire, my opponent's mixture was 3 range attack monsters and 1 magic attack with 1 flank.

BATTLE

Round 1

At first glance at my opponent's team, I knew this battle wasn't going to be easy, especially seeing Nomos, my opponent's archon, whose ability is almost anti-magic and most of my monsters had the magic attack. Thankfully, Nomos influence wasn't as potent.

Round 1 was a crossfire and the heat was felt by every unit. The battle started with my tank Albahoo Forester taking the first hit from the enemy unit Torch Myrmidon, but that attack did not go down easy, as our return fire was very much active, so it was a hit from both ends lol.

Round 2

The beginning of round two saw the annihilation of my tank, and the tank position was quickly occupied by Thunderous Herald. It was here that the battle got interesting, and the odds started turning in my favour as my tank healer, Meriput Magician, became active, replenishing the health of Thunderous Herald with each hit.

Round 3 - 4

Both rounds 3 and 4 were quite tough for me, as I had already lost two monsters, Albahoo Forester and Thunderous Herald, in the tank position, while my opponent only lost one Ulundin Overseer. I was already sweating at this point as I thought that I had been outnumbered by my opponent.

My situation was worse because I had miscalculated the position of Calabash Sage. As a ranged attack monster, it was supposed to be at the rear in formation but I had placed it in 3rd position and by the time both my first and second monster were down, this powerful monster that would have done a good job at the rear with it's 4 unit ranged attack, was as good as useless occupying the front line.

Thus, it was 5 to 2 and I had almost lost hope. I really wanted to see how everything played out so we kept fighting till the end.

Round 5-6

This battle is what you call a clash of the Titans. Despite the challenging first few rounds for my team, things started taking shape from round 5, and my team became even with that of my opponents, and they fought gallantly.

Mystic Mudbinder paired nicely with Meriput Magician as the last active monsters standing on the last round, and I must confess Mystic Mudbinder is one monster with resilience and attack as it kept dealing random attacks to the opponent's monsters left.

Round 7 - 8

In the final rounds, Calabash Sage proved quite useful as a shield to Meriput Magician and Mystic Mudbinder. It distracted the opponent's monsters left like Kha'zi Fire Mage and Moxian Rebel as they were focused on it and dealing it ferociously with magic attacks. While Calabash Sage took all the hits, it gave Meriput and Mystic the window to attack unopposed.

Thus, we emerged Victorious and won.

SUMMARY

  1. Variety they say is the spice of life. While magic attack proved effective for me, a perfect blend of the magic plus ranged attack is best with the given ruleset just incase of counter attacks from both ends. If Nomos ability were as effective, I would have been a sitting duck.

  2. Positioning is key. Ranged attacks to the backline then all other attacks can follow. Calabash Sage would have benefited greatly from the position of Mystic Mudbinder

  3. Do not joke with your tank healer. For protection, put it between monsters with solid attacks, health and speed. You can see from the battle how nicely Meriput Magician paired with Mystic Mudbinder and Calabash Sage

  4. Adaptability is divine. While I made an error positioning Calabash Sage, it soon became useful as a distraction to my opponent.
