Job 14:7 NIV
[7] "At least there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.
One of the areas in the Bible I consider to be a stronghold of faith is found in Job. His faith never wavered even when it felt like all was gone. When his friends visited, he made a striking statement that showed his depth of faith, and this can be seen in Job 14:7. It wasn't just a random statement, but one that should teach believers that even the least of anything, there's still hope.

Job described his fall as that of a tree that is cut down. By this, he was describing his current state that looked as if all was gone. To many, they feel once a tree falls, that's the end of it, but that wasn't the case with Job. He believed in regrowth even from the least of its remnant. He didn't give up on himself; he showed that life itself was hope for a better tomorrow. His statement showed that all that was needed to grow again was to have a shoot that did not fall.
The shoot may be a testimony of God's faithfulness or something He has done in the past. For a man to rise again after a fall, he first needs to have something as tiny as a shoot where his faith rests on. Even while we live, we need to remember God's goodness or a miracle that once showed His faithfulness and build on it. Only then would we sprout again after a fall. Our hope and faith should be built on something. Just as Job remembered God's faithfulness while he suffered and never ceased to speak of it, so should we have a shoot that never falls where our faith and hope rest on.
Job's story remains a lesson in faith and trust in God, unwavering. And that verse says a lot. We could be down at some point, but that “shoot” is what brings us back.
