Christians, ambassadors of Christ

Act 11:26 .... And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." (KJV)

The word Christian was coined by people who observed the life of Christ and the disciples, and realized that the disciples' lifestyle was similar to that of Christ. The major character they observed was the gathering of believers where they prayed and taught in the word. This shows most of Jesus' ministry was focused on teaching of the word and prayer, and this became the believers' daily activities.

Christianity isn't a religion, but a lifestyle—one that shows Christ in our daily life. If Christ was known for his prayers, then to represent him, one ought to pray. If Christ's ministry was focused on doing good, then as his follower, we ought to live doing good. Christianity doesn't end in the assembly of believers, but in the daily practice of doing what Christ was fond of doing. We are ambassadors of Christ, and the only way to stay identified is by doing what Christ did, in speech, love, endurance, patience, faith, etc. We are only Christians when our lifestyle speaks Christ.

Before Christ's ascension into heaven, he left the disciples with a commission known as the Great Commission. The task was simple—go into the world and teach.

[19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

The main emphasis was on teaching and observing all he had taught them. The whole purpose of the gathering is to teach, but what was desired of the assembly was to observe the teaching, living in that image of Christ for the world to see. We are not just believers in our daily gathering, but believers in observing a lifestyle of Christ. So when the world sees us, they should first see the one whom we follow. Christ is our model; our life should paint a picture of him as our model in everything that we do. Going to the assembly of believers isn't enough; living the life is what earns us the name "Christians".
