Exploring friendship in Ginika’s Bridesmaids

As the title implies, “Ginika’s Bridesmaids”, a group of young ladies from different backgrounds, come together to stand as bridesmaids for Ginika the only common friend they shared, but as the story unfolds, this group of strangers become good friends, their bond stronger and deeper, one that was able to stand the test of time.

Ginika, Ara, Isioma, Ife, and Ozioma, these five beautiful ladies take us on a journey, one where we get to see and experience the glitz, glamour, heartbreaks, pain, frustrations, wrong choices, love, and many more, giving birth to five books.
Each lady unique in her way and excelling at her own pace.

The story moves from helping Ginika plan her wedding after several months to unfolding secrets, finding love, strengthening bonds, abandonment, infidelity, and each of the five overcoming societal pressures and living their lives just the way they wanted at the end.

We are shocked by their growth and transformation. The personal growth of each character is admirable, we could see them learning, unlearning, and relearning, making the right decisions to their own astonishment too.

Each of these ladies had their life struggles, and their stories were explored in the various books. In their individual books, we witness the birth of their friendships and how this friendship played a major role in their lives.

Adesuwa O'man Nwokedi is a prolific writer. One of those writers who creates relatable and well-developed characters. As a reader, you’d be damned if you didn’t feel a thing while reading her books. She is known for using both English and her native language Igbo, she uses Igbo to express certain exclamations and proverbs and we see this a lot in some characters, especially Ozioma.

Adesuwa O'man Nwokedi tried to portray that girls can have a healthy relationship with one another without any sort of competition, strife, or hate. Yes, there would be drama, fights, and disagreements but love will always prevail in the end.

We get to see these five ladies actively involved in each other's lives despite dealing with their own demons. Their friendship is a true depiction of “We rise by lifting others”. Everyone in the group was willing to contribute their quota.
Their unwavering support and love for each other helped them navigate life’s challenges.

The five friends made friendship look so good, and a testament that we all need each other regardless of how strong we are.
Friendship is golden and having your own people in your little corner isn’t just a privilege but an achievement.

The friendship between Ginika, Ara, Isioma, Ife, and Ozioma wasn’t always rosy as their friendship was tested, there were fights, betrayals, disagreements, disappointments and so many other baggage that comes with friendship but they overcame all of it.

The plot, theme, settings, and character development were all on point. I’ll rate this book a 9/10 and I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I’d love to read your thoughts about friendship and would you love to read a book like this?
