I took a break from fictional books. I just couldn’t balance my time with everything else I had going on. However, I did on a whim decide to read a book I’d had in my library for months. I have heard the praises of the author so much that I just decided to download the book. That and the fact that it had no unnecessary steamy scenes (according to reviews).
Part of Your World centers around Alexis Montgomery and her very socialite background. The daughter of a ground breaking medical surgeon, and a girlfriend to one, Alexis had everything she could ask for until, so called boyfriend cheats on her. Alexis then finds herself trapped in the small town of Wakan in the snow, where she meets Daniel Grant, a local who not only happens to be very good looking with a bright personality but also almost a decade younger than her.
I spent a whole day bingeing on this book. It was the perfect escape. Two different worlds colliding. Two separate lives meeting and everything that one could fathom would happen happened. There was doubt, uncertainty, fears, narrow thinking, and of course, love.
There were some themes explored here that did irk me. Not because of the theme but mostly because of what it represents. One of them was abuse. Then the reasons for the abuse presented by Neil (her ex-boyfriend) later on just made me want to hurt someone. Reading Daniel empower Alexis with knowledge of basic things Neil would wield over her like a weapon was so very satisfying. This just went to further prove that you can everything money can buy and still be powerless.
Alexis also struggled with the decisions of following in her father’s footsteps or going for love. She had to go on a journey of self-discovery right in the middle of her plight with deciding what she wanted to do it in the end. Love or Family?
There was something depicted about the town of Wakan that also appealed to me. Abby Jimenez, the author, gave us a small glimpse of fantasy from mysterious fogs, sudden rains and flying acorns. It was not too much at all, just enough to add to the flavours already instilled in the novel. Abby is a brilliant author. I see why she was praised so much.
The theme of friendship and family was also explored. From the people surrounding Alexis to the people in Wakan. I expected this contrast in the novel and the pace at which it unraveled was just perfect. Little by little, the layers were stripped off to bare a woman lost to choices and a man deep in insecurities. Their worlds contrasted so well it gave a distinctive tone to this book.
I’m not one to do this but Abby was mostly praised for her ability to write a core rattling novel without including the graphics. I see why now. I think that the main charm of the story was how little was given with so much imagination. The excitement laid very much in using the imagination but I may just be talking out of context.
Just like the contrast between the main characters and their worlds, there was also the contrast of characters within their worlds. Alexis’ Father and his manipulative, authoritarian nature, her mother who was his enabler. It was no wonder Alexis saw emotional abuse as normal. Then bringing in Daniel Grant who was the pure opposite of all this but had a parent who was very much a replica of what Alexis was dealing with only not as severe.
I have to praise Abby for this one. She did the book justice. The storyline was fascinating and the delivery was great. I couldn’t drop it the moment I started. It was the perfect escape. A solid 4.5/5 stars for me.
Such a thoughtful take, well now I see why everyone praises the work of Abby. Neil made my blood boil but Daniel made up for it.
Oh you’ve read it? Yeah, Neil was a level one asshole. Daniel was a sweetheart 🌺
