Today I want to take you on a trip through memory lane in regards to something that happened, though I will say it's history but not ancient history because I still vividly remember it like it was just yesterday
My Dad was a civil servant who travels alot whenever work demanded it because he was always been posted to different states after specific years and though we were use to it but it was not too comfortable to be moving all the time and changing schools and environment whenever he was posted, we were living it Abuja (the capital of Nigeria) when he got posted again to Nasarawa state which we decided to move with him because he always preferred it that way, before going he already rented an apartment there so we just moved in straight to the apartment and settled in.
After that we all got enrolled into school and I was to start my junior secondary school (jss1) that year, so I went and wrote common entrance exams for a particular boarding school I had heard off and was eager to go and I passed the exams, I came back home happily and showed my results to my parents and my mum was very excited for me because that school was one of the best private boarding school in the town and i went ahead and showd the result also yo my Dad and he nodeed and told me congratulations and I was happy to hear that not knowing what will come next and then he suddenly said I won't be going to that school which immediately got me confused and angry and I was like "why won't I go to the school when I have already passed the exams" and he said I will be going to a different school in a different town, that his friend is there in the school and he will look after me very well with no issues
I was really angry about the change in decision and began grumbling, in my mind I was like "what was the need of writing the exams if you already had a school in mind already" and left with no choice I had to comply and prepare to start my jss1 in a different environment not even close to my parents or town. My mum took me to the boarding school and dropped me off with some foodstuffs and money to carter for myself and then left, even though she wasn't happy with the decision of my father also she still encouraged me to give my best regardless of the school or environment and I assured her I will and she left, I was given a bunk to lay my bed and a space to keep my boxes which I brought with me and my foodstuffs, I was also assigned a senior to take care of me and I will obey everything he asks me to do and I was excited about that and I introduced myself to him
My first night in the boys hostel was hell because I received almost 50 strokes of cane from different seniors as a welcome to jss1 gift from them and likewise every new jss1 students in the boys hostel received the same amount of beating and that night I cried my eyes out and told myself that I will run and go back home the next morning because if my first night is like that, how will the remaining days and years be like, my excitement of starting boarding school in another environment and enthusiasm drained drastically that night leaving me with nothing but hopelessness for the days ahead. The next morning my senior woke me up and I took my bath and brought him water to bath himself also and we all left for school as early as possible without even eating breakfast because we don't even have matron or staff in the hostel to coordinate the activities aside from our headboy who is also a student but a senior secondary school (ss3) student
The distance from my hostel to my school was more than 2km because the hostel was located inside the town while the school was build far from the town because of the availability of land in that area and least I forgot my school was a government school, so the government took advantage of the availability of land and build the school in the bush, though there are few houses around the environment but not much and that was how I had to walk to 2km plus journey everyday to and fro to school
It is an experience that I can never forget regardless of how long it is

Wow, such distance ow actually much o, but anyways an interesting experience that has now become an unforgettable memory. Once you survive the boarding school drilling I don't think there's no place you won't survive. Hahaha. An expensive indeed
Surviving such environment then to me was like passing through a military drill everyday because each passing day u are subjected to the same unbearable situations with little freedom 🤷🤷
But we survived and was shaped hard 😁😁 for endurance 💪
Much appreciated @chizzy100 for your view
