Today is Sunday and it turned out to be one of the most unforgettable Sundays service Iāve ever experienced. It was a combined service because it was an Holy Communion Sunday which means the whole church family came together under one roof and the turnout was massive. Usually, on normal Sundays we always observed the English and native language session, but today it a combine service. Everywhere was filled from the front seats to the back rows.
Usually, on special Sundays like this, all the various sub groups in church wear their uniforms to appear organized and united. The womenās fellowship appear in their colorful blue wrappers and white tops, the youth group and choirs in their own black and white attire and everyother subgroups in their matching outfits. But this time, my group (the musical group) decided to break away from the usual. We wanted to do something different. So we decided to dress in a semi old school fashion, going back in time by wearing our parentsā clothes. We appeared in our mothers and fathers old dresses.
My God!! It was beautiful seeing young men and women in old fashion or rather old school dress. Some of us came dressed in huge, oversized coats that looked like they were borrowed from the the 1970s. Some wore those old school suits with wide lapels long ties. Others wore dresses with big shoulder pads or wrappers that looked like something our grandmothers use to wear in those days. It wasnāt just a costume choice, it was a whole vibe. We wanted to honor our roots and also bring laughter to the service. And we definitely succeeded. People couldnāt stop laughing and admiring the dressing. Even the pastor couldn't help it with his laughter.
When the praise and worship session began, the whole congratulation lit up. The atmosphere shifted into something powerful and energetic. Our voices was fill with joy, the instrument was just giving the melody. The presence of God was undeniable. You could feel it in the way people danced, lifted their hands, and sang from deep within. It felt like heaven had come down to meet us right there in the church.
Our pastor later stood up and called it our Pentecost Sunday. He said it reminded him of the day the Holy Spirit came down in the upper room, as written in the Bible. The way people were worshipping, dancing, and rejoicing was something he hadnāt seen in a long time. Even the elderly members of the church, the ones who usually sit quietly during praise, stood up and moved their bodies.
Every group that ministered brought something special to the altar. The ministrations pass message to everyone presence in the church. The young womenās group sang a song that reminded everyone of how you girls of our generation follow men just for money. We the musical group presented a song with the message,( I'm not your enemy, if I correct you). It was like every corner of the church was filled with life and spirit. There was no dull moment today.
What made today even more special was that It didnāt matter what age you were or what group you belonged to everyone participated including the elders of the church. The joy was contagious. It was as if all the worries and stress of the week melted away in that service. Even though we had lapses with our microphones, it still didn't affect the service, you won't even notice their was any issue.
After the closing prayer, nobody rushed out. We stayed back to take pictures and laugh over our funny outfits. Some members came over to take selfies with our music group, and a few even said they want to join us because we made the day so lively. Everyone had something to say about how amazing the service was.
Honestly, today was more than just a Sunday service. It was a celebration, like a praise and worship Sunday. Today I understand that saying that it is in the hous of God, you wil behave like a mad man but will not be called a mad man because of the freedom to praise God without holding back. Truly, today was not an ordinary Sunday. It was vibrant, spirit-filled, and full of love. And Iām so glad I was a part of it. I can confidently say it was a blessful day, one that will remain in my memory for a very long time.
