A Quiet Morning Walk in Kayu Putih Village

The morning was calm, with a cloudy sky hiding the sun. The weather was cool, not hot at all. My friend suggested we walk to get breakfast instead of riding. It seemed like a good idea. A walk through the village would let us see what’s happening and enjoy the view.

The road was narrow, about three meters wide, with mostly rice fields around us. There were only a few houses. I enjoyed the sight of green rice fields stretching out, with coconut trees in the background.

Some of he rice was turning yellow, almost ready for harvest. I saw farmers in the fields, waving their hands and using sticks to scare away birds that wanted to eat the rice.

A few motorcycles passed by, most of them without helmets. In the village, people are a bit more relaxed about traffic rules.

We talked during the walk, pointing out different plants. Some of them were the same flowers used in Balinese offerings. It made me think of my wife back home. She’s been trying to save money by making offerings herself because flowers are getting more expensive. I really appreciate her effort.

After the walk, we stopped at a small food stall for breakfast. My friend picked it, and I agreed. We had rice with pork and lawar. The food wasn’t great, though. My friend said the portion was too small, and I thought maybe the food wasn’t fresh. It seemed like it might have been prepared the day before.

Even though the food wasn’t good, the walk was nice. Sometimes, the journey is better than the destination.
