TWO YEARS AND COUNTING

A few days ago, I had to loosen my hair because it was looking so rough; I knew immediately it was going to be a long day. Normally, I would go to the saloon to get it loosened, but most times, I end up joining them to make it faster. I don't have the patience, and I don't like more than one person touching my hair. So this time I decided to stay at home and loosen it myself.

I started early thinking it wouldn't be a big deal. But I found myself losing and dozing off at the same time. Eventually, I took a nap, thinking I would continue once I woke up. It felt like I was going in circles, my hands were so tired, but finally I finished everything and was so happy.

After loosening my hair, it dawned on me that it was the same month(may), two years ago in 2023, I started my natural hair journey from scratch. My hair has really come a long way. What makes me happy is how healthy it looks. I didn't get to apply any special hair product, no fancy oil, no straightening routine. Unlike my previous hair, where I applied almost everything I came across, this time I have been more relaxed and minimal.

Next came wash day, one of the most dreaded days cause it requires time and patience. I washed my hair thoroughly with my shampoo and then went in with my conditioner. I then sectioned my hair for easy combing. Natural hair is truly not for the weak. After combing out, I sat down and was rethinking if I should just give up on keeping natural hair and just put a relaxer. I had to shove the idea away because of the news on social media about relaxers being linked to cancer and other health risks. The journey continues, and I am proud of the crown I am nurturing.
