Today, I planned a quick run to Ahia Ahia Ọhụrụ (New Market) - dash in, pick stuffs and off again. Yeah, so easy to say, but not so in reality. Hehehe. You know how it is with me and market runs - shopping and capturing moments of market life. And today wasn't any different, especially since it's my first shopping at Ahia Ọhụrụ of the year. Hehehe.
I took the School road by East axis because I needed to pick up a footwear around the area. I noticed that the area was quieter than usual, no obstruction, cars were navigating freely.

Even wheel barrow pushers were having a field day!

Another one.

This development could likely be due to the task force keeping roadside sellers in check. I was kinda happy because that means, it was going to be even a quicker shopping. 😂

However, as I got to the Stadium area, reality hit me - the market is for busy-ness. Lols. The hustle and bustle was evident. Sellers and shoppers making the market come alive, and also contributing to the economic growth of the city.

Just like every other shopper, I moved from one stall to another, picking up the things I needed - beef, crayfish, tomatoes pepper, yams and more. And of course, capturing it on the go. Lol. So here we go.
At the beef stall.

Moving to the crayfish spot.

And she added "jara" (a little extra) to the portion I bought. 😂

''Jara'' is kinda thank you gesture from the seller. It's a local norm, showing appreciation for patronage. When sellers add jarra, it keeps customers happy and even win them over. As tiny as this "jara" tradition might seem, it's very powerful as sellers who skip jarra might lose repeat business.
Tomatoes, ☑️

Tomatoes are in season now. Half painter here goes for ₦2,000 - ₦2,500 ($ - $). If you love tomatoes, it's best to buy in bulk for storage, making paste or puree. You could also dehydrate and make tomato powder.
Yams ☑️

Dry fish ☑️.

Palm oil ☑️

And that's a wrap. See you in my next blog.

I always love how well you document your experiences. It's lovely! I think I found it odd that the other parts of the market were free, enough for barrow pushers to journey through conveniently. Not until you had gotten to the other part in the stadium.😅 All the same, I wish the markets paths would be free and people would shop with ease.
