It has been one hell of a ride but my two days journey to igbokoda Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo state in Nigeria ended today. My experience from this very trip though interesting is one I hope never to experience ever again. What was initially meant to be a 15 hours turned into a two days nightmare filled with unexpected events that'll definitely make minds explode so sit back and enjoy.
After I got on the bus heading to Ilaje from Akure (the state capital), I braced myself for another 5 hours ride even though my butt cheeks were already sore from the previous day's trip. The bus didn't take long to get filled up with passengers and in less than an hour, we were already on our way to the city of fish. About two hours into the drive, I began to notice something really odd about the woman traveling with her baby. I normally don't pry into people's personal business especially when we are strangers but there was just something really off about the baby she was holding that peaked my interest so all my attention were solely fixated in her the entire trip.
For starters this woman was trying extremely hard to cover the baby's face along with the hands and legs of what seemed like male child although I could not get a better look. I thought it was just her way of taking care of the baby but after awhile, I noticed something again that just didn't feel right to me. We had been on the road for over three hours and not once did I see the child move, blink or did anything remotely to what a babies that age did especially in such an uncomfortable situation. There were countless theories running through my head but none of them could prepare me for the actual truth😔😔.
It was extremely difficult to continue the rest of the trip because I could not my mind off or eyes away from what was happening right in front of but was still uncertain to raise any alarm. When we got to a place called Ore, the woman begged the driver to stop so she could urinate and the driver seeing that the woman has her hands full stopped to allow release herself from nature's call.
I watched her dash into a bush holding the baby suspicious and moving as if she was surveying the environment just like the undercover agent agents I watch in those spy movies. Looking at her from inside the bus it looked like she was about the dump the baby there but I guess she had a change of heart and brought him back her to the bus.
I knew I could not take it any longer so I alerted the man close to me about my discovery and the moment we reached our last destination, some passengers cornered her and after dragging the baby with her turns out the baby was already long gone and she was using a very strong perfume to mask the smell. I could not stay to watch the entire matter unfold as I was in a hurry to meet up with an urgent appointment at the Secretariat.
Till this very moment, the whole thing feels so unreal and I those theories in my head have only made room for more questions like: why was she traveling with a dead child? Is the baby her's? What if she's a kidnapper? How did it all get to this??. I have been trying to wrap my head around these all day but just like the road to Neverland I guess this will also remain a mystery.
