The Average man is lonely
It's a little ironic, isn't it?
The fact that we have never been more connected to one another like we are now.
I can send a message to someone on the other side of the world in seconds. I know what an old classmate had for breakfast. I can wish someone a happy birthday without remembering the date because an app reminds me. I can join online communities filled with people who share the same interests as me. I have hundreds of names in my contacts and hundreds more following me online.
And yet, in this age of unlimited connection, genuine connection feels scarce.
I saw someone post that she doesn't understand how people can fall in love over text, without a physical meeting. She goes further by saying that texting, keeping streaks, a like, a repost, or reacting to someone's story can create the illusion of closeness without requiring any real vulnerability.
Yes, we consume each other's lives through carefully curated moments. Like holidays, achievements, birthdays, graduations, and glow-ups. And it's quite paradoxical that we know what's happening in people's lives, but we don't always know how they're actually doing. And that's the weird thing about modern loneliness because It's possible to know someone's daily routine and still have no idea what keeps them awake at night.
And it's so confusing because social media promised us connection. And it delivered. It helped us maintain friendships across countries, reconnect with old friends, and build communities we might never have found otherwise. But it also made connection incredibly convenient. That is why it's confusing because It doesn't always look like isolation, like a kid in the corner cut off from the rest of his peers, It can even exist while your phone won't stop vibrating.Because loneliness isn't simply the absence of people, it's the absence of being seen.
And although the internet has given instant connection, we have also been overfed, with so much information that we lose sight on what is meant to be meaningful.
I'm not say phones are bad or the Internet sucks neither am I disputing the importance of the Internet, I'm just pointing out how the average man is lonely in this modern era and sometimes it can seem like we are not because of instant communication but communication doesn't necessarily mean connection.
