Slowly Fading

We are on the cusp of August, and it's difficult to believe that summer is slowly fading. I've been here at work the past two months, but starting on Monday @mrsbozz will also return to her office to continue preparing for another school year. How did we get here already? I ask myself some of the same questions when it comes to crypto. I've been seeing a lot of people celebrating some big milestones being involved with crypto as well as STEEM/HIVE, and other blockchains. It's a crazy journey we have been on for sure.

I'd like to say we are exactly where I expected we would be at this moment in time, but that would be far from the truth. I feel like a broken record, but we are still sitting and waiting for something to happen. Meanwhile, all the excitement, hopes, and dreams of crypto are slowly fading into the horizon. Gas has crept back up to $4.50 per gallon where I live, and it just feels like the world is kind of going to hell in a handbasket.

As I have said before, I'd like to believe that the CLARITY act is going to finally move us into some bull territory once it passes, but even that has me a bit skeptical. Many have mentioned, the narrative has moved on to other things and I think people are wondering if blockchain is really a viable solution to anything.

Roofing Ruckus

You might remember a week ago now I was lamenting the fact that the quote I got for having the roof of our house redone was ~$26,000 USD. After thinking about it for a bit, and no matter how much I trust my friend who gave me the quote, I decided to reach out to another company to get a quote. I told myself "this is way too much money to not get a second quote". Oddly enough, my friend agreed with me. He also had a lot of good things to say about the other company I reached out to. In the process of our conversation, he also explained that the reason he didn't have his guy give me the lower quote was because it only saved about $2500 for a far inferior material. I can appreciate his reasoning on that.

Anyway, we had the other company over last night to give us a quote for our roof. After doing the inspection and talking through the process with us, the guy gave us a quote of $16,000. Sign me up! Actually, I also have another company coming tonight so I can have a third quote to look at. Their online pricing was very low, so low in fact that my friend said he couldn't understand how they were getting their materials so cheap.

Part of me feels like if you are a company that only does roofing (unlike my friends company), you probably get a pretty hefty discount buying materials in bulk. They likely have warehouses full of shingles ready to go. I could be wrong though.

There is a good chance will end up going with the second company. Their reviews were really good and we felt quite comfortable with the guy who came out to do the estimate. Meanwhile, we still wait for the quote for having our windows redone. I'm still hoping we can get at least two of our three jobs (roof, windows, flooring) done this year.

GoMining

If you haven't checked out GoMining yet, you really should. They recently changed their referral program to make it much more lucrative for both new accounts and people who have been on the platform for a while. If you use the link above, you will get a free month of Platinum + VIP, 5% cash back in TH on your first miner, and $20 in TH once you hit a certain level. If you have been looking for a long term slow but steady investment on the crypto side of things, this could be your shot.

In addition to that, if you ever decide you don't want to be involved anymore, you can sell your miner on the marketplace and keep all the profits you made. BTC seems to be one of the most reliable tokens out there right now. Why not invest in it?

Everything Else

As for everything else, I'm kind of just letting it ride right now. There isn't much we can do as long as the world continues to be in turmoil. It's hard to even plan for the future at this point. I just keep tucking away what I can here and there and hoping that the investments I have made in the past (both traditional and crypto) eventually bear some fruit. It does me no go to lament or wallow in where things are right now. All we can do is move forward, one small step at a time.

It helps to know we are all in this together!

Beautiful capture! The sunset through the trees creates such a peaceful atmosphere. Time really does fly as summer fades!

That's very good of your friend to effectively give his blessing to the other firm. He probably has enough business that he doesn't need to do a mate deal, so win win for both of you.

I've heard that some businesses will give a high quote if they don't really need the work due to being busy. If they get the job then they are better off anyway.

Blockchain is not the 'shiny new thing' these days, but I still see applications. We need decentralised options and Hive has advantages in cost and speed. Currently lots of people are trying new apps, often using 'AI'. We need one of those to go viral.

The second quote sounds spot on based on lower labor costs at your location and the size of your roof. I would be cautious of super low quotes from the third company.
