I'm definitely getting older...
I apologize, it's a bit of a slow start for me this morning. We are currently getting hammered with a pretty significant snow storm. Six inches overnight, on top of the two or so we already had on the ground, with another four to six coming throughout the day today. Needless to say, this is pretty significant. Although we had a snow day at work, as an administrator, I still have to report, so I made the 20 mile drive into work. Only two and a half of the roads were completely unplowed, so it wasn't too horrible.
I was tempted to call in and use a personal day. In the past, I never used to really mind trudging through the snow to get here, but in past years, I have more and more hesitation. If it wasn't for the fact that I would rather use my personal days in the summer to camp, I likely would have burned one.
I think a lot of it has to do with Covid and the fact we realized that a good portion of my job can be done remotely. Of course when teachers and students are in the building, that isn't the case, but on days like today. It's not really necessary for me to be here. With high speed Internet connections and secure VPN connections, I can do much of my work from my couch.
This post isn't really about me though. The other day @mrsbozz got called into the bosses office for a special meeting. Now, usually it's me that gets to have these meetings with the boss due to people thinking I am mean or hard to work with. The reality is, I am just in a position where I have to tell people "no" a lot, and people don't like being told no (especially these days).
Well, in this case my wife drew the lucky straw and needless to say, she was a bit worked up about it.
I had planned on giving a lot more details for this post, but I think I am going to back off for the sake of privacy. It's not like anyone really ever reads these, and I don't think anyone involved would probably ever happen upon this blog, but while I have less than a year left (if I want) at my job, @mrsbozz has more time and I don't want this to blow back on her.
In the vaguest terms possible, the school district pays an entity to provide a service. Personally, I don't feel that service is being adequately supplied, so I often question why we continue to pay them. My feelings aside, this entity lodged some complaints against my wife and her direct superior which for all intents and purposes are beyond petty and have made me realize just how much this world has changed.
Probably one of the biggest issues that she relayed to me was the fact that she isn't welcoming to these outside contractors when they visit the building. Well first of all, she is there to take care of the students, not make them feel good about coming to work that day. Second, my wife has over 70 students on her caseload with some that can be set off at the drop of a hat. While she only has a single title at the building she often fills the role of many positions including tech support (because her husband is the "tech guy"), nurse, principal, secretary, etc.
She has a lot on her plate and doesn't have time to sit and chat about what someone did over the weekend. If she did have time, she would put a smile on her face and nod through it, but she just doesn't.
I think the biggest rub was the fact that after 23 years working for the district in this position suddenly her integrity was being questioned. All because she didn't smile at someone as they passed through the hall.
Obviously, there is a bit more going on in this situation, but that's the basic crux of it. Which again makes me realize just how much the work world has changed.
Apparently people think that work is more of a social gathering these days than a place where you actually do your job. Don't get me wrong, friendships happen at work. I don't deny that, but if your whole day revolves around how many people say hi to you when you walk in the building like they are lucky to be basking in your presence, then the problem might be you, not them.
Sadly, that's not the way the world and the younger generations see it. In the past, the majority of the complaints never would have gotten to her. The superintendent would have said "that's BS" and stood up for his direct employee. These days however, that employee is now called into a meeting and has to justify her position like she is the one who committed the offense.
Obviously, I am a bit biased, but trust me, @mrsbozz is everything I wish I could be. Her work ethic is impeccable, confidentiality is paramount to her, and at the end of the day she just wants to do what is best for kids. If you want to trash someone's reputation and call them out, come after me. @mrsbozz is sacrosanct.
It's scary how the current class of workers feels like they should do as little work as possible and you should kiss their feet because of that. Like we are lucky to have them here wasting our time and space. You know what though, as long as they keep getting away with it, they will keep doing it.

A heck of a lot of snow... Safety first, if you have to use a personal day then use it. The last thing Mrs Bozz needs right now is having to worry about you.
That is the number one thing in my book. Calling my integrity into question is the biggest no no. Someone did it to me here and I am still surprised I stayed.
Yes don't give too much away. Mrs T just started a YouTube channel 10 days ago so I am out filming things for her, part of it is being an American in Scotland so I had to be careful with what I say!
My thoughts are with you both. Mrs T's sister is a long time employee in the schools admin side of Florida for over 20 years too and noticed changes for the worse.
It's just crazy how bad it has gotten. It wouldn't be so bad if the people higher up supported you, but you know they are going to cave when it comes down to it because everyone is just so spineless. It sucks!

But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone

I think this kind of thing is affecting all levels. The superintendent probably has his hands tied too. I remember a few years ago when my uncle ran for the president of the school board. As a teacher in the system for 40 years, he wanted to improve the system, and thought being there would allow him to do it. But nope, he had so many constraints and was constantly having his hands tied from people above him while being screamed at and blamed for everything by people below him. It was a terrible experience. His reputation as one of the best teachers in the city was destroyed and by the next election he no longer wanted the job. I can imagine it's the same at pretty much all upper levels of the school system.
People aren't becoming any more entitled than they always were, I think, but policy has changed enough that we have to listen and act. In Japan, old men have always taken offense and screamed at employees for the same thing your wife got in trouble for, for not being "nice" enough to them. What had changed is that 20 years ago, everyone would just ignore them and then try to comfort the person who was yelled at after they left. But today, a report has to be filed and the matter has to be looked into and so on. It's a mess.
Yeah, that is likely true. The fact that we are giving more credence to such trivial matters is annoying! That's too bad about your uncle. I know how that story goes though. I think that's pretty typical for politics in general. My guess is a lot of politicians really do want to see change, but then they get there and realize the path to change isn't as easy as they thought.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does

I think Covid really did display to the world how much easier work is for most people when the commute to and from it is eliminated, knowing it can be done online. And then returning to those workplaces not long after, almost demoralised people as their time and more comfortable spaces were removed from their routines. There's some good in the workplace where people connect with others, but reality is when most work is done online at a screen, you're barely interacting face to face anyway.
Yes, those are some good points. I don't think I would ever want to go fully remote, but times like this when it's safer to just stay home, it makes a lot of sense. The technology supports the positions these days with things like IP phones and all of that.
That's how I am at the moment in Yerevan. The air quality has reached dangerous levels with even brief exposure, day and night. So I'm mostly been stuck at home. Not the best thing for someone in photography and videography work but it has made me think of additional ways to use the limited space I have to potentially keep work moving forward. Instead of exposing myself to harsh environmental conditions.

It was getting much worse in the company I worked for the last five years I was there. I've heard it's gotten worse yet since the pandemic. We simply had managers at our company who were afraid of confrontation. It was much easier for them to cater to the employees who did the bare minimum work-wise but complained the loudest when they felt like they were mistreated or wronged. We had one woman who claimed she was "overly stressed" by her workload and would run to HR at the drop of a hat. Her workload was often divided up amongst the rest of the department and she was allowed to sit at her desk and color in an adult coloring book a few hours a day while the rest of the department did her work (and theirs). Another employee would schedule fake meetings and sit in conference rooms for hours at a time. Responsible people who didn't complain were rewarded with more work. This created a very demotivating environment.
Haha, yes, that sounds exactly right. It's so horrible. I am happy I am nearly done with this part of my life, though I don't know what the next phase is going to look like. I might end back up in a corporate environment. I guess if the money is good enough I can power through for a decade or so.

We have a couple really big lakes around us that basically turn into a snow machine under the right conditions. They call it lake effect.
I can relate how bad the things are. I have been to such situation in my working days....cant deny the facts that such situation does gives a lot of stress

Yes, her meeting went better than she anticipated. She has said though if her integrity keeps getting questioned she will likely look for a new job. She shouldn't have to defend herself. I told her I support her whatever she decides.

People have really become isolated; all they expect to see is a smiling face.(not knowing a true intention). These days it's harder to be real than to be a fake one.

We have an atmospheric river right now with flooding expected on Friday. We have proved that we can do our jobs 100% remotely by working five years only remotely with better results than ever before. Now we are going 50% in the office, which sucks.
With your wife, keep in mind that there could be something else at play. For example I have seen this over and over again when people at the highest levels of governmental organizations have connections with private entities. I was never sure what those were, could be family connections or political campaign contributions or something else... But in our latest example our upper management was forced to hire contractors that were put on projects that I was leading and these contractors were a waste of our time, like a project manager while we already had a project manager, but now we had to dance around these people and make them welcome and make them feel like they are doing something useful while in reality they were a drain on our time and taxpayer money... But if you don't make them feel good they would run and complain to their "uncle" that we were not engaging enough or positive enough or fill in the blank and the blow back would come from the very top and our CIO would have to run to the department directors and shit would come down to the grunts... So there could be something like this in play for your wife...
Yeah, there is definitely something like that happening, but not because of any familial or friendly relation. It's more about them providing a service that is legally required and for whatever reason they are the only ones that can do it. So we are effectively stuck with them, but they also have some personal vendettas they are allowing to cloud the waters. Specifically against my wife's direct supervisor who she gets on well with. I think she is kind of just collateral damage at this point, but questioning her integrity is a step too far in my opinion.
It is not worth it to put up with BS like this. I retired a few years ago and it was the best thing I ever did.

For me i could be criticized fir pretty much fir anything when I worked and it wouldn't have and didn't bother me but being questioned about my integrity would gave sent me off the deep end
