Expect the Unexpected

PXL_20260311_103027858.jpg

I can't quite remember when my wife and I started dating, but I do remember it wasn't right away that I found out she enjoyed the show Big Brother. It's something we have been following together for years now and if you know the show, the slogan is "expect the unexpected". That fits pretty well with my world right now. In fact, if you looked up Michigan weather in the dictionary, you would probably see something like "see also, big brother".

Tuesday into Wednesday we had a significant amount of rain falling in our area. In fact, just go to YouTube if you don't believe me and look up "Grand Rapids March 2026 floods". That's a town about an hour and a half west of us and they got hammered pretty hard. As you can see from the opening photo, after the rain, the temperatures dropped pretty significantly and all that water froze pretty much everywhere it was sitting.

Mind you, on Monday of this week it was sunny and almost 70(F) outside. Yesterday was sunny if not a bit cooler sitting around 40(F) degrees or so. Then this morning they are calling for some massive snow. Up to 7 inches in fact. School has been preemptively close, though I made the drive in anyway and I barely saw a flake on my half hour drive here.

It will be interesting to see what the drive home is like. Thankfully, I'm used to Michigan, and I have been following crypto for over eight years now, so expecting the unexpected is almost second nature to me. In fact, I was a bit surprised to look at my feeds this morning and see that BTC is back up over $72K. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here. I have a feeling we will drop back down heading into the new week. It just depends on what shenanigans the politicians get up to I suspect.

It's safe to say, I am definitely starting to get ready for Spring and Summer. In the same vein, I am also getting ready for the crypto markets to thaw out. This long frozen slog has just been kind of miserable. Unfortunately, just like I know there are a few more snow storms in the immediate future, I am sure there are some more pull backs as well.

HIVE Happenings

I'm pretty excited, my @bozz.sports account is pushing closer to that 10,000 HP mark. It will be a pretty big deal for me because growth on that account has been relatively slow. Clearly it isn't earning anything close to what my main account is, but I really enjoy writing sports related topics. In addition to that, the new SportsBlock front end and community is pretty awesome. If you haven't checked it out yet you should. The folks there have something really special happening.

I recently moved some funds into their token MEDALS so I could have a nice stake. I wanted to get to 20K staked for the time being even though @fullcoverbetting probably thinks I was just trying to beat him. I'll likely stay where I am in second place now until the price of the LEO token turns around and I can sell some of that for more MEDALS.

I'd also like to remind everyone that there is still an active prompt in The Pub Community for our recently started Pub Prompts. Just check out @thepub account for more info. If you have any ideas for future Pub Prompts, drop them in the comments here.

This is also a reminder that I have a Grilling and Smoking Community here on HIVE. We really don't see a lot of activity in it which is too bad because I know there are tons of you out there who fire up your grill on the regular like I do. Plus, we are starting to get into the Spring and Summer season, so even if you put it into hibernation for the Winter, you should be busting it out soon!

PXL_20260308_203910577.jpg

@mrsbozz was hungry for a chicken burger the other day, so we took one of hers out of the freezer, and I made a few beef patties for myself, and I grilled them off on Sunday evening. I only ate one of them, the other three I froze or took to work the next day for my lunch. I discovered this company out of Manassas Virginia a while ago called Dizzy Pig Seasonings and I have been really enjoying their offerings. I started out with one of their small sampler packages and from there I picked up a couple bigger bottles of my favorites from the five samples.

Holozing

Due to the decreased return on investment, I removed my delegation to the @holozing account a while ago. Then, the other day I noticed that it is showing I am getting zero return from my staked ZING tokens, which seems kind of odd since I have close to 1.5 million staked. I don't really mind though, I am still getting a nice 40% return on the tokens I have pooled in the liquidity pool, but I wonder if this is an announcement I missed or if there is just something funky with the interface that it isn't showing those rewards correctly.

Maybe it's not even a new thing and I just haven't noticed it until now. Who knows. My share of the LP right now is 3.26%, which isn't huge, but it is still something.

Splinterlands

Splinterlands is in a bit of a holding pattern for me right now. I am still participating in guild brawls, but I don't have enough DEC to play in the season. I'm starting to build up a nice stockpile of wood that I can sell when the prices return to normal. At that point I should have enough DEC to get me through a couple more seasons. For now though I just sit and wait.

I still haven't figured out what to do with my SPS Validator Node either. I have a feeling I am losing money on it, but I just haven't had the time to look at the numbers to really see if that is true. I'll likely just keep things how they are until I get a bit more ambitious.

Yes, love it, act without expectation.

The joys of Michigan weather

0.00113587 BEE

I grew up in Ohio, and we joke that the weather there is like a 800 pund gorilla, in that it does whatever it wants to do. Sunny in the morning, in the 70'2, but freezing in the evening in the 30's to 40's and snow.
In the NOrth we get feet of snow due to the lake effect, and in the south it is more moderate.

Congratulations on your second account getting to 10,000 HP, thats a great accompishment.
I am really trying to get as much cash as possible into my main account, as I am trying to get to 100,000 HP during this bear market and low prices.

Splinterlands
I have sold all my tokens and now starting to sell my cards.
I am just going to focus on building my main account, selling all my second layer tokens except Leo.
I think there are to many Splinterlands tokens for the price to ever come back, and although I enjoy the gane, the set-up rewards players who play consistently and severely penalizes casual players, so I am pulling out my funds. I had heaviliy invested in the rental market, but I no longer get any real return on that either, so it's time to move on and focus on something I can be successful at...
But Good Luck to you there, I know there are many exciting things happening and change there is the norm, so the game played today maybe very different from what I was playing even 4-5 months ago.

Good Luck

Ohio is a fun state. I visit there about once a month or so. We have relatives down near Columbus. Splinterlands is whatever. I can't bring myself to sell anything right now. Not at these prices. I don't know if they will ever recover though.

0.00000000 BEE

Near Columbus? I was born there and grew up in the shadow of Ohio State!
Small World!

Regarding selling cards in Splinterlands... it is a slow and painful process for the exact reason you mention. The prices are so low.

I feel bad now, to have paid so much for certain cards, and laugh that some of them were bought at a big discount when I bought them, but I never envisioned the prices would continue to fall.

I also didn't know about the steady march of the new cards, I thought those were rare events and then they turned into reguar occurrances, just shattering the price and value of the previous group of Monsters.

it's hard for the old favorites to hold their value.

There's so much to learn about Splinterlands and the ecosystemm, and they are very expensive lessons.

Congrats on that milestone for your alt-account! This year is proving to be full of surprises when it comes to weather. They've forecasted up to a 12" of snow for us over the weekend and we had high winds all last night. I found one of our downspouts a few doors down this morning and a few other of our neighbors lost siding. The ducks and geese are already back so they're going to have a rude awakening! Be safe on the roads this weekend.

0.00113584 BEE

Thanks, you too about the roads. It looks like if they can get the snow moved it's warm enough here that they are just wet. That's the good thing about these late winter storms I guess. They were saying 10 inches of snow on Sunday earlier in the week, but I think they have scaled that back a bit.

0.00000109 BEE

Thanks! Yes, it won't stick around more than a few days here. I'm really hoping it's not as bad as they're forecasting...thankfully we have pellets for the stove and food in the fridge.

Funny how as the years pass the memory isn't quite as sharp as it used to be. I understand that completely! But Big Brother was something you both enjoyed, too bad the weather up there isn't always so nice. Ice storms really suck. Hopefully, the drive home won't be bad today.

I'm happy with BTC prices at the moment, but they usually don't tend to stick on a push like this. I hope this time it proves us wrong and goes higher. I haven't been grilling nearly as much these days, and when I do rarely do I even think about snapping pictures! It's about to become prime grilling season for you though as things warm up!

On Hive, who knows what's going. Splinterlands isn't exactly on fire price wise, but I mainly play brawls, Frontier, and some occasional Modern. But I don't have the SPS stake to make it all that worthwhile. I never invested in Holozing, I guess after Splinterlands and other play to earn games kind of went south I gave up on investing much in them. Maybe that will turn around eventually, I'm crossing my fingers!

Have a great weekend, and I hope that weather cooperates!

0.00113289 BEE

Thanks, it's mostly just a wait and see game right now for a lot of things. I hope it all turns around soon.

I need to get one of those grill grates for my weber.

0.00113205 BEE

Ace Hardware is your friend, they usually have a great selection of Weber stuff.

0.00000057 BEE

I'll check that out! We have a few Ace Hardware locations around here :)

0.00113584 BEE

That’s a great twist on the Big Brother slogan, love how it fits life’s surprises.

0.00113118 BEE

For sure!

I didn't had the impression that you just wanted to be number 1 on the leaderboard, I am just trying to build my stake slowly to 25K medals. Would be great if I would be the first Gold Member, but don't care so much about. The hope is that we will have many Gold Members. At least the same amount as James Bond, so 007. More are welcome.

Now I do need to try to keep some medals liquid for the upcoming contest. I really love that there is an actual use case for Medals, compared to other L2 tokens.
Maybe, decreasing my stake in Leo and conver those into medals would be a great plan.

So feel free to pass me again :)

0.00112910 BEE

25K is my short term goal as well. Great minds huh?! I haven't looked at the levels, but it is a nice round number. Soccer absolutely confounds me as you know, so I will probably skip this event. No need to keep any MEDALS liquid for me at this point!

0.00000000 BEE

The masters are coming up. Also the worldcup, which doesn't require to much knowledge. It is just great to see how they are building something without receiving funds from DHF, or something like that.

The prompt topics on @thepub are not consistent, with the topics i mean the last one uploaded was about 19 days ago

0.00000000 BEE

No, they are not scheduled. The theme is consistent though.

I can't quite remember when my wife and I started dating, but I do remember it wasn't right away that I found out she enjoyed the show Big Brother.

You're going to get in trouble for this πŸ˜† so I suggest you go hide behind the couch.

As about the Grilling and Smoking Community, I had no idea we have one, but unfortunately I can't contribute there for now. A flat balcony is definitely not the place to grill anything, unless you are sunbathing and burning your own self, but not in March.

-0.02135867 BEE

Yeah, I understand that about the balcony. My wife and I were looking at some new apartments that they just built the next town over and my first question was where would we put the grill. I know it was in 2006 that we started seeing each other, I just don't remember if it was before the summer or after.

0.00000068 BEE

Even if you live on the ground floor, you can't use a barbecue due to the smoke. I have an electric grill in the kitchen, that is ok, but that's it.
