I spent the entire day before I travelled to the far north for my NYSC with my then girlfriend, and looking back, I didn't know that would be our last day of sharing that kind of conversation, togetherness, laughter, and the like, but then it was a remarkable day with a lot to talk about, from reflecting on our past to introducing little jokes that spice up the moment, as we drift to talking about our plans for the future, making it seem like we're trying to fit the entire chapter of our relationship into a few short hours.
To me the day was going perfectly, as I can't help but think of how much I'd miss seeing her and sharing memories on a daily basis. And during the course of our discussions, she told me to make the last meal before I travel. Since she said it'll be a great way to remember me, I decided to take the task seriously, and I probably took it far more seriously than I ought to, because my plan was to make it sweeter than ever, and to achieve that, while cooking, I kept on adding more seasoning than usual. To me, I was making a masterpiece, but in reality, it was a disaster.
During the course of my cooking, she stepped out for a couple of minutes; on getting back, she found me staring at a pot of food that looked fine but tasted awful, because I had added more seasoning than usual. In fact, I'm certain it's enough to make the United Nations consider it a salt crisis. As funny as it sounds and seems, I was disappointed with myself because I had just one job and I messed it up, but then she saw the funny side of it and got laughing so hard that we nearly forgot we were hungry.
After a lot of laughter and drifting to other things, rather than getting upset, she rolled up her sleeves, and together we began to cook another meal, a meal we could actually eat, unlike the one I made earlier, which she probably understood was ruined under the desire of making it stand out, because I used to cook for us prior to that. To cut the long story short, we completed the new meal, ate together, and still discussed it further through the meal.
Looking at how that day went and the various things we discussed, especially plans for the future, I actually thought it was the foundation of the next step of our relationship. Little did I know that it was the end. After eating and discussing, I carried my luggage, and she later walked me to the car park and waited until the vehicle took off. I must confess I actually wished we waited a little longer before taking off, but then it is what it is.
That was how one of the most memorable days of my life went, and like I once stated in one of my write-ups, we're no longer together, because when I came back to pay her a surprise visit during my NYSC, I ended up being the one who was surprised when I met her in a compromising position with someone else.

Can't hold my laughter boss, lol.
This had happened to me once when a friend visited, we were both novice when it comes to cooking.
I'm happy your girl of them is an "understanding type," unlike anyone who would get angry and ruin the day.
Thanks for sharing Boss.
Yea it was a very good day that almost ended up my disaster of a food, thankfully she understood I was trying to impress.
