Gold Stingray Coin as Gold Surpasses $4,000!
This has been a fun week for all of us who have invested in Bitcoin, those new all time highs are a great feeling. It's also been a huge week for those of us who are invested in gold as well! Today gold crossed the $4,000 price threshold for the very first time, meaning that to buy one Troy ounce of gold, it will cost you in excess of $4,000! Investing is always fun, but it's even more fun when you are in the money!
Unlike Bitcoin, I have invested in precious metals since I was young. My father was a big believer in owning precious metals. As a matter of fact when the US government stopped using silver in circulating coins in 1964 he went to the bank and invested in as many silver coins he could at face value. It turned out to be a great investment in the long run. But he was my inspiration that got me started in silver/gold and it's been a life long way to invest!
Another passion of mine I developed while living in the Caribbean. It was there that I first took scuba diving lessons and have been hooked ever since. There is just so many beautiful animals and reefs to explore underwater. I was lucky enough to dive around many of the Caribbean islands over the years while I was living down there. I also began collecting silver coins from around the region as well, that silver bug never goes away... Many of the coins there celebrate sea life and birds as it is part of their culture and traditions. Those have become some of my very favorite coins to collect as I've always been an animal lover as well!
The coin I'm sharing today I've not been able to afford quite yet, as gold had become so expensive over the last year. This one comes from the Cayman Islands, one of the few Caribbean islands I never visited. Mainly because they are so expensive to even visit... The islands have been producing a Cayman Sea Life coin series and for the last two years they have produced this beauty, a pure gold stingray coin!

Isn't that pretty? It's one Troy ounce of pure gold and produced for the islands by the Scottsdale Mint, a company known for their craftsmanship. The attention to detail in these is nice, with the waves surrounding the edges of the coin and rippling on the coin's reverse (back)... I really want one! They only produce about 1,000 a year so they aren't too common and are price well at $4,125. Not a bad premium price at all. For those of us short on cash (like me at the moment) they also produce a 1/10 ounce version that is only $455. That may be the way I will have to go if I can pick one up this year!
And just a quick look at the spot price of gold, it's really run up quickly this year. Just in the last day it has seen some impressive gains. I remember buying gold some 25 years ago for around $700! The good old days...

I can't share a stingray coin without at least talking a little about the animals! These beautiful fish live in tropical and subtropical waters around the world. There are even fresh water varieties that live in rivers! I've typically seen them swimming around tropical reefs while diving over the years, but they like to burrow in the sand to hide from predators. It can make them hard to see at times but is excellent camouflage. They are the preferred prey of the hammerhead shark so they have a good reason to stay out of sight!
There are more than 220 known stingray species from around the world, and some are really pretty. I've never seen one like the yellow one above, but that would be quite an experience! For those non divers or snorkelers who enjoy the warm beach and shallow water the best way to avoid accidentally stepping on them and getting a nasty sting is to shuffle your feet in the sand as you walk. That will alert them that you are near and will quickly swim away. One sting from one of these will sure ruin your day at the beach.
Sadly, many of these fish are facing extinction mainly due to over fishing. Some places don't regulate their harvest and there has been a world wide plunge in their overall numbers. So without more conservation efforts many could be lost forever.
Personally, I've never eaten stingray before and have no idea what they taste like. Has anyone ever tried them before?

Whenever I hear or see stingray I think of Steve Irwin the Aussie Crocodile Hunter who was killed by one...

Stingrays just don't kill people as a general rule, Irwin's death was the equivalent of being struck by lightning. He was inexperienced in the water and had he been more aware it never would have happened, but the chances of a barb piercing the thoracic wall is so incredibly remote... Most of the time a person would have walked a way with some nasty sore stings, not dead on arrival. Poor guy, I felt bad for his young kids losing him so early in life!
Yeah it was the repeated stabbings that got me. Sad to see but that is life.

My best friends father understood this as well. Together, both of these men ingrained in me the importance of owning real silver!
When I finally had a one dollar bill in my hand, I would ask my mother to take me to the bank and trade it for 90 percent silver quarters!😊

It's true, people back then didn't get it, and today many still don't. It's sad really that a basic concept is so widely ignored by the majority of the population. Some people are starting to wake up and smell the coffee though with the all time highs on gold and silver!
That's a very pretty coin. Ive always wanted to dive. The closest Ive been was snorkeling on the St. Lucia coast. Its amazing what's under the water!
It is a really nicely designed coin isn't it? Diving is a blast, there is so much to see and experience in the deeper water. St. Lucia is a pretty place though isn't it? Snorkeling is always a fun and relaxing activity out on some of those shallow reefs. Back in Puerto Rico I used to go out on reefs with a buddy and catch lobsters, the good days!

That is a really pretty coin. One of my favorite disc golf discs that I keep in my bag is the Stingray. It always flies really straight and true for me.
Funny how an item can be so much more reliable than the others when it comes to disc golf. Same is true of regular gold as well I suppose, but I've always had trouble with frisbees liking to curve on me! Maybe it's how they make the Stingray or the material? Interesting!
Thanks, I would love to pick one up, but to be more realistic the 1/10 ounce version is more likely to happen. Gold had just gotten so expensive, as have silver! I was shocked to read it had already pushed past $4K!

Not at this price tag! Gold just gotten too expensive this year. If I'm lucky I might be able to pick up a 1/10 ounce for 2025! The full ounce is just too rich for my blood at the moment!
