Buying some bananas in a roadside mini market🍌

This morning I decided to attend the morning service at church which was slated for 7am but I was some minutes late because it took extra time to get ready due to the fact that I woke up late. The church service was of course a success, a blessing filled experience. The sermon was about Holiness and the Pastor shared ways to maintain holiness as Christians. The choir’s songs were full of energy and soul lifting praises. These spirit filled feeling is all I need as I start a new week to keep me going.

After the service as I was heading back home I decided to buy some bananas. There is a mini roadside banana market just some minutes away from the church. I spotted the fresh bananas that were displayed on their tables as i approached them. However, my expectations didn't match the situation with the vendors in regards to the price - i was expecting to meet an affordable sets of fresh bananas.

As I picked the ones I wanted and asked for the prices, it was quite higher than it used to be. I wasn't surprised to be honest. The bunch of bananas that i use to buy between #700 - #1000 is now been sold between #2000 -#2500. The price of everything have gone up - groceries, transportation, electricity and so on. The things that used to be basic and affordable have become luxury that is only affordable to a few people. The vendor lamented that the price of a bunch of banana had increased significantly due to the high cost of farming and also the cost of moving the produce from the farms to the markets.

The high cost of living is hitting hard on some many people especially low income earners or the unemployed. It becomes hard to make ends meet in this present economy especially if you're not financially stable. Still, I had to haggle a bit to get a good deal. She finally reduced some amount for me after having a friendly customer-seller chat.

On my way home I was feeling like i just won a lottery, it may seem like a small win but it is a subtle sign that even in these tough times in our country you can still enjoy some things with the right negotiation skills.

To a blessed and great week ahead, filled with more accomplishments and sweetness just like - a banana 🍌.
