This time of the year is supposed to be cold in Tamale, the Northern Region of Ghana. Unfortunately, it has become extremely difficult to even experience rain drops in my area.
I cannot remember the last time it properly rained in Tamale. I often joke around saying it is because the people in Tamale sin way too much and that might be case but then it’s probably another thing else. Because of the severity of the lack of rains, the Islamic communities came together last week to pray to God to give us rains.
Because there are no rains, farming has become very difficult this year which of course has resulted into the production of less plant produce. Farmers are suffering, market women are suffering and food has become very expensive.
Last year, during this time, I was in Navrongo which had a totally different weather to what I am experiencing now. In Navrongo, everything is heightened. If it’s raining, the rains are very serious and if it’s hot, the weather is very hot. To be honest, Navrongo is the strangest city I have ever lived in. Everything is just different over there and that is something @nhaji01 and @abenad can happily give testimonies on.
I am pretty sure it’s the same this year too. I hear it’s raining in Accra meaning we Tamale people definitely have done something to piss off the rain Gods. Maybe you all will have to pray for us cos it’s no longer funny.
The funny thing is that although it’s not raining, the general “environment” feels like a “rainy” one. You wake up in the morning and it has the feel of impending rain from morning till evening. It happened today as well and luckily it drizzled for like 30 seconds. I mean, is that even lucky? This sort of environment can just make you lazy the entire day because you wouldn’t want to go out and get drenched in rain.
I had to go to town but because it looked so much like it was going to rain today, I decided to stay out and lazy about. It drizzled at around 12 for less than the 30 seconds and for real that one really pissed me off.
I do not particularly like the rainy weather because I easily get catarrh which I don’t like at all. The cold during the rainy season doesn’t benefit me and that’s why I often think, I wouldn’t survive abroad where it’s much colder 😅. Maybe I cannot japa 😂.
But then, the other benefits the rainy season brings like cheaper food makes me yearn for the rain. For someone like me to miss the rain means it’s very serious. Maybe I’ll visit @abenad so I experience the rain there and she crochets me a blanket to wrap myself in. Hope you’ll welcome me nicely and we’ll have a nice time Abena hehe.
What do you think about the weather in your own? Has it been as expected or it has disappointed you like mine has? Share with us by participating in InLeo's calendar prompts. This is my response to day 11 of InLeo's August calendar prompts.
Thank you.
