My Christmas celebration this year was so remarkable. I had everything planned out. How I was going to spend my time and on what activities. I planned to binge watch so many of my favorites movies while eating popcorn, get the much needed sleep I’ve been lacking on, and maybe go out in the evening to a cozy nice restaurant with my friends. But fate had other plans for me that day.
Christmas morning started off calm and serene. The sound of jingle bells playing from my neighbours house woke me up, reminding me what day it is. I got up from the bed with a smile on my face and headed to the kitchen to make a warm glass of tea. After I had my bath and freshened up, I took my time to call my loved ones and friends. Wishing each of them a very merry Christmas. They were all very delighted to hear my voice. Then I proceeded to open my gifts from a few people who still had me in their hearts and got me a gift for Christmas.
I received an expensive gold watch from a dear friend of mine. This really caught me by surprise. It was so beautiful and very expensive judging by the quality of the watch. I instantly called him quickly, thanking him for the thoughtfulness. He, on the other hand was glad I loved it. I opened other gifts but this gold watch I received would be the best gift I got this Christmas.
I decided to quickly run to the market to buy one last ingredient I forgot. But I instantly regretted it. The market was in utter chaos. I honestly thought the market would be empty or quiet but it was quite the opposite. Men and women flocked the market, fighting and quarrelling for the last remaining food stuff to buy. I was caught in the middle, squeezed like a mushroom in between the crowd. By the time I got back I was barely myself.
Evening came by fast enough, at least, I had enough rest and felt so much energized after waking up from my nap. But it was time for family dinner and you know how messy family dinner can be. First of all, I must say, the meal was mouthwatering. My Aunt, Jennifer overdid herself on that meal. But my pesky little cousins barely allowed me to enjoy my Christmas dinner with their overly loud bickering on who should eat the chicken head. My little sister who sat beside me kept on bugging me for a glass of wine and eventually ended up spilling it on the table. But honestly, behind the messiness of the dinner, it was fun, there was laughter, and joy and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Those little imperfections, those unplanned, messy moments full of joy and love made Christmas so special to me this year. So if you are in the same shoes and life had other plans for you and your Christmas didn't go as you expected it to. Don't worry about it. Sometimes the best unforgettable moments happen unplanned.
