Valentine's is a season of love, a time where loved ones treat themselves or their partner to something special, shower them with gifts, give them a treat, or go on an outing. It's always an exciting moment, but then I must chip in that we mustn't wait for a special day before we make our loved ones feel loved or special to us; this should be a daily routine, like something we do sometimes often so that every day literally feels like it's Valentine's Day. That aside, I've witnessed lots of Valentines and seen love at its best, but I've also seen some Valentine's Days go south, and below I'll be talking about one.

One of those days when Valentine went wrong was a few years ago, and it happened to a neighborhood friend of mine. This is a guy I've known with this particular girl for years, and it was certain to everyone that they'll end up together because the guy is obviously serious with her and doesn't joke around with anyone else. So on Valentine's Day of that fateful year, he has a plan to pop the big question we've all been expecting. So to make the surprise go well, he had lied to his girlfriend that he'll be travelling and won't be around on Valentine's Day.
His intention was to show up to her doorstep on Valentine's Day with a few friends, photography, and the like so they can pull off the perfect surprise that befits a proposal to his longtime girlfriend. So basically the lady didn't expect him to be around on Valentine's Day; in fact, they had spoken that very morning, where he wished her happy Valentine's and apologized, promising to make it up to her once he's back from his trip. Not long after that, he, his friends, the photographer, and the other surprise crew matched up to the girlfriend's house; then they knocked, and after a few minutes of waiting, she came to open the door and was greeted by all the surprise crew.
She was putting on a towel, so everyone thinks it might be uncomfortable without clothes, because she quickly closed the door and didn't open it back for a while. Then the guy stepped forward to open the door and step in, only for him to see another man panicking to wear his trousers and the girlfriend looking for where to hide him. The guy was so shocked that he didn't know when he fainted, and the girlfriend had to call for her, and everyone rushed in to see what was going on, and then they carried the guy out to give him fresh air before he was resuscitated. It was a very heartbreaking thing for anyone to experience, and I feel sad for the guy, but then I'm actually glad he witnessed that in time and not later when he had settled down with her.

That story lived rent-free in our memory throughout that month and beyond; in fact, it was the first thing we remembered in that neighborhood for the next few years anytime Valentine's Day arrived. Even the guy has to move out of the neighborhood, probably due to the countless times he overheard people talking about him and his ordeal. It's one of the few times I've witnessed Valentine's Day go wrong or in the direction we expect.
