The Simple Hacks That Work

There are days we feel on top of the world, being proud of ourselves for meeting our daily goals and then perhaps treating ourselves to something nice like preparing a nice meal or even ordering shawarma or pizza with chilled plastic ice cream or watching an interesting movie or going outside to feel the natural air or just enjoying a soothing relaxation as you listen to your favourite songs in your room.

These are some of the ways we tend to appreciate our efforts for the day, particularly for our resilience and how we were able to smash and tick off those lists of tasks jotted down on our to-do list or even in our notepad or set an alarm or the one we tend to do - flowing with the day but being focused without letting any distraction set in.

There are days I just want to go with the flow, too, especially when I am too weak to get up from bed because I just want to stay longer, because why? I feel since there's nowhere I would be going or nothing to hurry me, then I just have to take those tasks one by one till I'm done, and if perhaps I wouldn't be able to finish all, I postpone them till the next day.

On other days, I tend to finish everything off the list and still have some more time left to either engage in something that wasn't planned for or just while away time to watch movies, listen to music or just sit while reminiscing on past memories and also, looking outside the window and appreciating nature and the gift from God to us.

And yes, I have my ways, or should I call them hacks, to achieving my goals for the day and still enjoying the rest of the day feeling proud and excited while eager to see what the next day would look like.

Sometimes when I'm in the mood, one of my hacks is writing down everything I need to do in a paper or on my notepad - and it works. Once I am done with the first task, I tick it off as a way to track my progress and make sure I am accountable for myself and not be distracted.

At this point, when I do this, I disengage myself from social media like WhatsApp till I'm done. This is why I have turned off my notifications for months now because I know that I can easily be distracted by just one buzz on my phone, and that could stop me from getting things done on time.

Another hack for me is through mental notes. It's like I already know what I need to do in my head, and I will easily start on them till I'm done. This is done by singing the next task in my mind or out loud so I won't forget.

The last hack for now is through rewarding myself. If there's something I love, it's treating myself to a chilled drink once I'm done with my work, and it's done towards the end of the day, except on days I'm craving it so badly and would get it anytime I want.

But when it comes to being focused on achieving all I set out to do for the day, I would tell myself, "Busayo, you're going to buy Maltina or Nutri milk later today. So, make sure you complete all your tasks."

Trust me, it works because by the time I start to imagine myself with a bottle of malt or Nutri milk seated in front of me, it inspires me to do my work as fast as possible and by the end of the day, I feel like a heavy load was being lifted off my head and all I need at that moment is taking a shower and my drink.

But for the other normal days where I don't want to jot anything down or set an alarm, I let it flow even though I stay focused to achieve my goals. If I can't complete all, maybe due to some unplanned events or situations, I remind myself that it's okay and I need not push myself or feel sad because tomorrow will always come.

I don't write my daily tasks on note or notepad because I keep everything in mind and I complete my task almost everyday according to my plan. It's something I can do well. But when I have some optional task I write it in computer's sticky note and I try to do those when I get some time for those.

Yea, we all are different and many of us are gifted especially in areas where we can just have those tasks in mind and still get them done accordingly.

It’s the little ways we treat ourselves after a stressful day that make the day feel special. Thanks for sharing.
