Unlocking Your Full Potential: Thriving In Mind and Body

Hello there,

I hope you’re having a great and productive week. Growing up, life becomes really overwhelming for some of us and due to this we tend to pay less and less attention to our health.

This is my entry to this weeks hive Ghana weekly contest and today I want to talk about how I am able to enhance my physical and mental health. Where I come from, much attention isn’t payed to our health especially when it comes to our mental health. Even when we are not well, we refuse to go to the hospital until the situation gets critical.

I grew up with my parents and siblings and in our home much attention is payed to our health especially our physical health. My mom would make sure we are well, took drugs when necessary and also made sure we were comfortable at home. With that, we didn’t have any issues with our mental health because we were happy and didn’t go through any hardships that could affect us mentally.

Now that I am older everything is different. I’m living my life alone away from home with no one to guide me. All I have is what my mom taught me as a kid and what I learnt growing up and that’s what has brought me this far. I learnt a lot on my own and I discovered more about myself when I started to become independent. Nevertheless, adulthood comes with its own struggles. For an over-thinker like myself, I have fallen into the pit of depression many time and it took a lot to get myself out of that situation.

Depression isn’t something we can control but we as individuals can find ways and means to prevent it by studying ourselves. Personally, I came to a realization that as I overthink, I gradually get depressed and also being alone for a long while can also lead to depression. I’m not someone who goes out a lot so you would mostly find me in my room doing my own thing because I value my peace of mind. But in as much as I value my peace of mind, I am causing harm to myself by being indoors for so long. To prevent this from happening, I have made a promise to myself to go out of my room for at least 2 to 3 hours on days I have nowhere to go. Some days I barely have time to be at home and that’s to my advantage. I also make it a point to speak to family and friends most of the time because it also helps enhance my mental health.

Moving on, physically I think I’m okay but nothing is ever okay. We are required to constantly exercise in order to keep fit but with my busy schedule I barely get time to exercise. One way I am able to keep fit is to exercise indoors every morning right after I wake up and before doing any chores or activities for that day. With this, I am able to stay active for long periods thus maintaining a healthy body.

On days where I have time, I make my way to gym to do some exercise. I don’t really like it there because we are made to undergo some strenuous and vigorous exercises but in all , it’s for the best.😂 Off-late I haven’t had much time to exercise or go to the gym and as a result I feel there’s something missing in my life but I will soon make changes when all this is over and done with.

So far, I would say I am doing great in keeping a healthy physical and mental state and I think this is the best I’ve done in a long time. Change doesn’t come at once, it takes hard-work, dedication, commitment and time. I believe that soon enough I would look back and see how much I have improved in all aspects of my life.

I hope you enjoyed reading this, thank you for your time.

Thanks for sharing your journey toward better health with us, indeed it is truly inspiring. It's not easy, but small steps, like getting out for a few hours and squeezing in some home workouts, make a significant difference. We all need to keep that positive mindset, and those changes we work on will surely fall into place one day.

I totally agree with you. Most at times it’s the can-do spirit that keeps us going. Thanks for passing by.

I can relate to your situation as well. I used to stay alone at one point, and then I didn't feel the need to go out at all. At first I didn't see anything wrong with being in the house by myself all day, but soon enough it started to take its toll on my mental health.

That's when I understood that we humans were not made to live in isolation. I craved having another person around to talk to and it made me a little bit depressed.

Going out everyday for 2-3 hours is a great way to avoid that. Well done and keep it up.

Honestly, living alone for long can make you go mad because at some point you’ll start talking to yourself.😂

At least we should make it a point to step out everyday for our own good.
Thanks for passing by.

Depression is something that passed away, it surely cant be prevented but it can be controlled. The main point is not staying in it for too long

I agree with you. Being depressed for long has its effects on us and no one would want to find themselves in such a situation.
Thank you for passing by and have a great day.❤️
