Living on campus is the best for me.

To begin with , throughout my school life from primary school up till now that i am currently in the university, I have never stayed off campus before so I have never experienced life of a student who stays off campus.

Personally, from my own experience i would say staying on campus can be quite challenging at times but then it has it's own positive sides.

One of the challenges I face currently staying on campus is the availability of water. At times, we normally don't have water to bath most especially during Wednesdays where we are to be in the chapel by as early as 10am and everyone would literally be rushing here and there so they could , freshen up, dress up and make sure to be there on time.

Another challenge I would say I face from staying on campus is the issue of bed space. In my school students pay alot of money for accommodation but then they don't even have enough hostel to contain the students they admit which I very find annoying. There are alot of students who pay millions of naira as school fees but then they can't even sleep on the bunk rather they have to sleep on the floor since there is not enough space for everyone to stay.

Also, I would say another diadvantage of staying on campus is the issue of privacy. Atleast when you are staying off campus you can choose to rent a house and just be two inside the house-probably you and your friend and there can literally be privacy. But then for instance, I am currently staying in a room where we are five students and someone is even sleeping on the floor. So we are always just in each other’s space and you can't really have much time to do things on your own without anyone actually inteferring in your business which I would say is a problem in my own end.

Talking about the positive side. First of all, you don't have to pay much when it comes to transport. The transport fare in Nigeria is currently very high and let's say you stay a bit far from school you would have to take a cab everyday to school if you don't have a car and that would cost you alot of money. Also, you would have to pay bills here and there which might be very costly unlike on campus where everything has already been paid for.

Another positive side about staying on campus is that you can get to class on time. For instance,my hostel is just two minutes walk to my college so I can literally just walk down there. But if you are staying off campus you might get stucked on the road and won't be able to get to class on time and that can even make you miss several classes along the line.

Also, there is security. You would agree with me that students who stay on campus tend to be more safe than those staying off campus. My school literally has security officials who are in charge of safeguarding the students in case of an emergency ans I don’t think that is the same for those staying off campus. Also, let’s say someone requires immediate attention in the hostel they can quickly be picked up by the ambulance in school and taken to the hospital immediately even at midnight which may not be the same for a student staying off campus.

So at the end of the day, I would say i don't like the idea of staying off campus-it can be very stressful and I would always prefer to stay on campus because i believe it is much better in terms of accommodation and even safety.

Thanks for reading.
