THE PRIVILEGES I’VE COME TO APPRECIATE

As humans, we are opened to so many privileges around us but somehow, we most times ignore these privileges because they don’t seem to present themselves as one. Growing up, I had a lot of privileges. My parents weren’t rich but we were comfortable. There were days when I wished I was from a different family so I could get the opportunity to more privileges but overall, I know how blessed I am thanks to the family I was born into.

I’m a middle child between a girl and a boy. Having those two as my siblings has been a huge privilege for me because it would have been way harder than it is now for me if they weren’t there. My parents don’t live together but for the fact that we have ourselves, it was easier for us to cope with the different ups and downs that we faced. So in simple response to the hive Ghana topic, What’s one form of privilege you’ve come to recognize in your life? I’ll say that it is the privilege of having a supportive family and people.

My family has and is the most supportive to me. They are always willing to listen, help and give me advice when needed. Whenever I’m wrong, they don’t hesitate to point me to the right path and that is because they want the best of me and today, I’m mostly who I am today, thanks to them. Besides my family I was born into, I have also been privilege to build some great relationships that have become closer like a family and I always feel so blessed whenever I’m reminded about them. Getting support from people that are my blood, I feel a bit entitled sometimes but then, I’m again reminded that they can still choose not to show any form of support to me but then they are wholeheartedly being supportive towards me and I’m really grateful.

So for me, the best form of privilege is people, my family, my friends, my employers and so many people that life has brought my way. I doubt I would have come this far if they weren’t in my life. Knowing that I have people to rely on and ask for help is a huge privilege and that is what God has blessed me with. Of course there are other forms of privileges but since I have to focus on one, then it has to be the one I just shared - People.

I like to see people as a form of wealth. There is a saying in my place that who get person get money.. Again from your write up, there are people who might be in your life and not want to render any form of support. Sometimes all these categories of people do is just to take from you and one might not truly be mentally inclined to realise that they are being taken advantage of. So for those of us who have people that always got our back, we are truly lucky and privileged.

Yeah, I have heard that saying. Well, that’s just the summary of it. Instead of investing in how to get money, investing in building good relationships pays more.

Thanks for your contribution, mama. 🥰
