Some not so long years ago, when we were kids my grandma often engaged us in a lot of tales and fables almost every night when she's around she almost never ran out of stories. I still wonder how she does it till date. There was this story that kind of stood out to me, it was a tale about tortoise and all the animals in the animal kingdom, it explains why the tortoise has a lot of rough patches, it goes like this;
The bird King Toriola sent an invite to to all the animals in the animal kingdom so all of the animals can gather in his palace in the sky to celebrate his daughter's birthday, and it was difficult for animals without feathers to attend, so tortoise came up with a suggestion that they should have a meeting with the birds of the sky to lend them feathers so they could also attend the birthday celebration, and that was how the birds agreed,but before they left, tortoise told everyone to choose a name for themselves and when it came to his turn he told them he wanted to bear the name " Everybody".
All the animals agreed and when the day of the celebration came, they all flew to the king's palace in the sky, they all introduced themselves with the name they had picked for themselves.
Then it came to the time for the proper feasting to start, the King Toriola stood welcome all the animals and thanked them all for gathering to celebrate his daughters day and he then proceeded and said everybody should eat, tortoise stood and said since his name was ‘everybody’ , the entire feast was meant for him, he sat there, ate and drank to his full,all the animals and the birds were angry at him. At the end of the feast they all went back to their various homes without tortoise.
The birds then collected the feathers they had lent him, tortoise was stranded at this point, he didn't have a means of getting home, so he begged the hare to help him tell his wife to bring out soft things from the house so he would jump from the sky and land safely, but because he had cheated the hare on a previous date (story for another time), the hare went and told me he wife to bring out the hard things from the house so he would jump down, and since tortoise was up in the sky he couldn't make out what his wife had brought out , he jumped from the sky and landed on hard grinding stone, metals etc, His back got broken into pieces and it is said that that's why he has rough patches till date.
Those years as kids the tales were just all fun and games, but behind it all there are always lessons/morals to be learnt. So I'll mention a few first is to never be selfish and greedy, second is to be kind and grateful to those who help us climb higher heights in life and lastly sometimes our past sins might always come back to haunt us. As some would say karma is real and b**ch excuse my language.
I'd like to say a big thank you if you stick to this point, you can share other morals and ideas you got from the story. Thank you.
