Oftentimes we get caught up in the struggles of life hence our conversations revolve around difficulties and disappointments. Although it is important to acknowledge the realities of life, I believe it is also as important, if not more, to pause and reflect on the good in ourselves.
Thankfully this prompt from Hive Ghana has given me the opportunity to reflect on my positive traits and highlight the things I value about myself and my life.
One of the things which I admire about myself is my resilience. Life has not always been smooth, but I always find strength to keep going, even in the face of setbacks. I have had moments where giving up was easier, yet I would hold on and search for solutions and find strength that I didn’t know I had. This ability to rise after falling is something I am grateful for, because it keeps me moving forward.
Another quality of mine I admire is my compassion. I genuinely care about people. Whether it is giving a listening ear, offering help when I can, or simply saying a kind word, I do so with all pleasure.

This was part of the reason why I chose to study medicine and become a doctor, inorder to help people as much as I can. It is something that I also believe that we all should possess regardless of our occupation. We have to always have compassion, it is what makes us human.
Another quality I admire in myself is my inquisitiveness. I am always hungry for knowledge and this hunger has enriched my life in many ways.
I am never scared of asking questions or reading widely. This hunger has also made me more confident and equipped to handle a lot of illnesses and emergencies. It is also one aspect of myself that I usually pray to never loose. I want to stay hungry for knowledge and never feel satisfied no matter how knowledgeable I think I have become.
Lastly, I am proud of my optimism. I am a strong believer that better days are ahead, no matter the current situation of things, I always keep hope alive. This hope is part of what fuels my actions, and inspires those around me too.
This does not mean that I ignore reality, no. Rather it helps me to see light even in darkness. This gives my the drive to strive and not given up.
So, instead of highlighting only the struggles and challenges that I face, today I highlight the good in me. These are the qualities that define me, the blessings I carry, and the reasons I continue to believe in myself. My life is not perfect, but I am learning to celebrate the fact that I am making progress gradually.

I think your hunger for knowledge is definitely why you chose to be a doctor aside being compassionate. That’s very admirable, I must say.
Indeed, it was very integral. Thank you so much.
