I remember when I fell in love for the first time; nothing else seemed to matter. All I wanted was to be with the girl my heart had chosen. But that love ended before it even began, because we never truly dated. It led to pain, and that pain shaped the person I am today.
After a few heartbreaks, I can now say I have graduated from the school of relationships, and I know the signs to look out for. Still, I do not regret the feelings I had for my first love; They were real. It began as a friendship, and we were so close that people thought we were dating. I didn't even realize I was in love until I traveled out of town for a few weeks.
Every time I remember what happened, it still amuses me. It felt like I was struck by lightning a few days after I arrived at the place I traveled to. One night, as I was about to sleep, a sudden rush of emotion reminded me that I had left my beloved at home. From that moment, I began to feel uneasy and couldn't stay much longer. Within a few days, I left the place and went back home to check on her. Love has a way of controlling us, a way of bending us to its will.

Unfortunately, the love was not mutual. She loved me only as a friend, and in that moment, I lost both a friend and a love, because I could not handle being just a friend.
Many people find themselves in this situation, falling in love with someone who doesn't love them back. I was one of them. The heart indeed wants what it wants, but I eventually learned that we must learn to control and protect it before we lose ourselves to the wrong person.

Are they in love with someone else or crushing on another person?
Is the love truly mutual between you?
They may show you signs that they like you, but you need to define what kind of likeness it is - Is it just friendship or love, as in love type?

It hits differently to know you’ve been all alone in a relationship. Sometimes some people just enjoy two timing because they are scared of losing both people only to end up losing them in the end, lol.

Being alone in a relationship is worse than getting rejected, you are right! Considering the resources, time, and everything else wasted on the person only to find out in the end that they are a player, it hurt.

I also don't regret all of the heartbreaks I've had, each brought with it something that I had to learn about human nature lol. Love is inherently rational but we have to be realistic in order to separate the forest from the trees. Sometimes, the writing is always on the wall, but we somehow refuse to accept it until the wall comes crashing down :)
