MODESTY BEYOND LOOKS

It's another week on hive Ghana and I am excited to be here once again. Today I will be writing on the topic modesty.
Modesty is one topics I can refer to as controversial. Because people understand it differently and use it based on what it means to them.
Modesty is a words that means different things to different people.
The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 8th Edition defines modesty as the fact of not talking much about your abilities or possessions.
I can also refer to modesty as a word a that is relative. And why relative? It is relative because what may be modest to someone may not be to another. Or what may be acceptable in one environment as modest may not be acceptable in another environment. Let me use trouser as an example. Some people, especially in Africa see trouser as men's wear so when a lady wear trousers,they see it immodest dressing. That is why I say it is also relative.
Most times, people talk about modesty only in the area of physical appearance; which includes the type of clothes a person is wearing, the person's hair style, makeup, shoes type etc.
But modesty goes beyond dressing and physical appearance. It affects every aspect of human life and existence. Ranging from how we talk, how we eat, how we spend money, how we sleep etc.
Being modest has to do with creating a balance between the two extremes which is not over doing or under doing something.
When someone talks too much or too little, he or she is not being modest, if a person sleep too much or too little he/ she is not being modest. If my dressing is too shouty/revealing or out of style, I am not being modest because both can be detrimental. Staying modest is creating a balance in everything we do. Be it dressing, talking, eating, etc.
I see being modest as the best way to live one's life because it helps us to keep things in check and in control. It helps us to keep things low by not drawing unnecessary attention to our selves there by avoiding unnecessary pressure that is capable of affecting our peace of mind.
The decision to be modest helps one to live life base on his or her terms without out feeling pressured to do what others are doing or to follow unprofitable trends.
Living a modest life is profitable to both old,young, man, woman boy or girl.
Modesty should not be limited to how we dress or how we look, it is beyond that. If we practice modesty in every aspect of our lives, we will live a happy and fulfilled life void of stress and pressure.
